Well, I picked up this mouse today. More than happy with it so far. I see people are concerned about the weight, but I actually like the weight. It feels right to me.

I was concerned that it wouldn't work under linux properly, but I hooked it up, let it charge up a bit and booted into linux. It works great. (BTW, using Suse Pro 8.1). Didn't have to fiddle with anything at all. The only buttons not working are the thumb buttons and the app button, but I wasn't expecting them too. The scroll wheel and the scroll buttons are working fine.
Glad to hear it worked out great.

I'm also interested in the MX500 under SuSE Linux 8.0. I just haven't decided if it's worth upgrading from my 2-month old Dual Optical MouseMan. I would prefer if the thumb button works, but I don't really care about the "new" buttons in the MX design. Actually, I am not too fond of the new tiny buttons that were added to the design. Everything else ergonomically is awesome though.

It's possible to re-map all of the buttons using xmodmap, but unless you write some imwheel scripts for applications, the extra buttons (besides the 4 main ones, and the scroll wheel) won't do anything.

Sounds like it more of an issue of which one feels better in your hand and price. If you own any bluetooth devices or plan to soon then the base-station with the mouse sounds like a good thing to have.

Its a matter of personal taste. I have both mouse laying around. on the MX700 i dont like the way the scroll wheel feel, Microsoft mouse always have better scroll wheel. MX700 have recharge batteries which is great. Explorer for Bluetooth is also a great mouse, but hate when it goes into sleep mode. The batteries that came with the mouse is still running after 3 week. Whereas the MX700 only lasted me 2 days. Also the Explorer for Bluetooth comes with a neat little transceiver with blue light. And a downside for the Explorer for Bluetooth is that it will not work in non-windows.

I own the Logitech MX700. Never thought I'd want to go wireless. I tried the cordless Intellimouse Explorer and immediately returned it. The MX700 use Nickel-Hybrid batteries (they have no "memory" limitations like nickel cadium). When I'm not using it, it sits in the charger. Doesn't make sense to wait until it runs out of juice before charging it again. That's an advantage of nickel hybrid batteries. I use it for gaming (FPS) without a hitch. This is the mouse that all all the others will follow!

Ordered my MX700 from Amazon last week. I had a $30 GC. Then use the 20% of Logitech rebate.

Can't wait but Amazon's super saver shipping is SO slow.

Actually, Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries *do* have the same "memory" issues as NiCD's, but allow for much higher mAh ratings. They're falsely advertised as having no memory as a selling point, and get away with it because the memory is less noticable than with NiCD's due to better overall power output.

Expect to have to replace the NiMH's that come with the MX700 about once a year just to be on the safe side. Still, a pair of these should only cost you $5 or so and this shouldn't be a big deal.

My MX700 lasts me about three days of heavy use (practically constantly for >12 hours a day) before requiring a charge, and only take about 5 hours to charge from minimum. If I remember to keep it in the charger when I'm done each day, it's never an issue at all.

Thanks for clearing that up!

If you put it in the charger when you're done each day, won't that cause the 'memory' problem?

Now that I have this mouse there is only one gripe I have with it. Sometimes I have to click the mouse button twice like it's not responding on the first click. Even if it has sat only a few seconds, say 20.

Anyone else notice this?

My MX700 is perfect! The battery lasts a good 4-5 days with normal to heavy use. The precision and speed is great.

I have the mx700 but have big hands. No one seems to mention that the MS intellimouse seems to have better ergonomics, but is heavier I think. I'm about to return my mx700 and check out the bluetooth cause at the store it felt so natual with my big right hand.

The biggest gripes I've read all over with the non-bluetooth intellimouse is that it lags with fps-intensive gaming and the well-posted annoyance of the sleep mode.

I love the mx700 I have right now, but my seemingly arthritic hand does not. It felt better built and look nicer to me.

My advice to go to your local BB or CC and test their display models. If you like the mx700, go for it cause it's absolutely the best rated cheaper alternative. BUT if you want a bluetooth transceiver and/or like the ergos, go for the MS. This is coming from a fan of logitech's frequently updated drivers and top-notch support.
