I picked these up when they were $49.99 minus a $20 rebate. Very good for the cash. Much better then those cheap multimedia speakers you'd get with your monitor.

I like these, but refuse to buy them since they charge twice as much just to get them in black/grey....even though they're the same speakers!

Amazon seems completely down at the moment.

In any case, these are *awesome* speakers. Just picked them up for the wife's PC. Very, very impressive.

As is typical with Logitech, if you have the volume on the sub (it has its own control) set up over 25% or so, they tend to be a little too "boomy" - but, set appropriately, they have a wonderful sound for the price. Highs could be a *little* more crisp (no tweeter in the satellites), but it still sounds good. Overall, there are points you could improve....but not at this price point. And I'm just being nitpicky.

These are WAY better than the "cheapo" desktop speakers at their *regular* price.

Just to offer another opinion on the speakers (this will stave off any potential disappointment ^^):

I got these back when they were like $8 shipped, after rebate. For the price I paid, they were a good deal, but for $24.99, I would be tempted to pay an extra $15 to get something with better sound quality (these are a bit muffled/dull). I know everyone keeps saying these speaks have awesome sound, but seriously, you get what you pay for. I've owned $40 speakers that produced *much* better sound quality, though with not so much power, which brings us to...

These are great if you want bass; not so good, if you ever need to turn the bass down. Even with the knob set to the absolute minimum, there is noticeable bass that can only be diminished by lowering the volume. (And obviously, there's no treble control.) I haven't tested the maximum extent of the speakers, but I can tell with the bass and volume knobs up part way that the sound quality gets bad pretty quickly.

Take all this with a grain of salt as I went from $40 speaks to $60 speaks to a $250 set and now to these. If you want sound quality for cheap, you might want to look for something cheap from Boston Acoustics (if they're still available) or Cambridge Soundworks (maybe? not sure). At $8, these were a good deal (i don't take into account s&h cuz i can easily walk over to a CC), but at $25, they're just decent.

Bottom line: the sound quality is not as impressive as its visual aesthetics.

Agreed!!

I have both the Logitech Z-3 ($18) and Altec Lansing 2100 ($30) and honestly the Z-3 fall short in sound quality. It does have a lot of bass but that's about it. Skip on the Z-3 and wait for a set of 2100 for $30. They come and go every now and then.

buy.com has the Altec Lansing XA3021 2.1 for $20 and free shipping. would these be considered better or worse than the 2100s?

Man, where were you negative dudes when this was first posted? Now I have to decide if I need to hunt down the rebate that disappeared from the amazon site AFAIK, or return the unopened package.

Added: Ah well, a few mores days gone by, a few more beers... Now it doesn't seem to matter much. Heck, it's for my kid anyway, so who really gives a rat's rear end? Not that little dude haha

Thanks to Coquito for the rebate link!

hehe sorry =P

not saying they're worthless speakers... just depends on how much you would be spending, and how picky you are... i'm just one of those guys who isn't comfortable knowing that for an extra nominal amount, I can get something better... that's how i ended up with my $1000 (at the time) digital camera (original spending budget: $300-$500)

I think for under $20, I wouldn't mind buying a pair that i can just give away when i move... but for more than that, I might want to try a different model... i wish boston acoustics was still in the computer speaker business... they used to make really nice speakers, though their base pair was ~$60...

I haven't tried either, but I would put my money on the 2100s being better.

I also can't attest to the Altec Lansing 2100s v Logitech Z-3s... if anyone lives close to a CC (and if they carry both), you can buy both and test them out before you buy. Of course, I think some (or all?) speakers have a burn-in period, after which the sound quality improves. Don't quote me on this.

For those of yhaving trouble finding the rebate, you have to search for the z3's under amazon directly. J&R is the seller that comes up during the search since it's the cheapest. Amazon's price is on the right side.
