Should I get the Klipsch 4.1 for 150? I know it's refurb, but how bad can refurb speakers be?

As long as they give you a nice warranty I'd go for it. And make sure its a credible site/person you are buying it from. I know the creative inspire refurbs and z560 refurbs were cosmetic damage mostly and not internal problems.

Nice speakers.

Just a question, won't these be a better buy ?

Kenwood HTB 505

At $377 plus shipping you get 100W/chanel receiver and ( decent 2 way ) speakers .. and the 8" sub real good.

Read the reviews at Audio Review ...

Although not THX certified but when you put that sub to work while fragging in UT, your ears ask for mercy.

You can setup this one for your desktop use with ease and enjoy 100W per channel on your table top ( front mains a little big I admit )

In the sub $400 budget, these kick azz ..

I think I am missing something here. How can the Z-640 be a 5.1 solution and be less than half the price of the older 4.1 Z-560's?

The Z-640s (51w) don't have as much power as the Z-560's (~400w). I guess that makes them worth less...

Are they really worth that much more? It kinda seems like buying a $400 video card instead of a $120 video card. I'm interested in the 640's....I only have a 2.1 set now...but I have an Audigy now, and ..well who cares..it's a dorm room, but I want some 5.1 sound!

dorm rooms are the best place to show off your superior speaker setup. When I am listening to digitally imported at a medium volume, bass set to about 2/3, the people 3 floors up can be bumping the same beat that I am. I don't know, I guess I am still of being written up for that. The CA came down 3 times to yell at me to turn it down. Before the last time, I couldn't hear any music (or bass for that matter) outside of my closed door, but the bass must have traveled straight up. 188W sub baby!

Jumped on the Techsavings Logitech z-640 deal...... about $76 shipped. I own both the z540 aswell as the z560, and the z540 can hold pretty decently against the powerful z560. I decided to get it for my 20'' TV that has RCA audio outputs on it (I also can hook it up to my Gamecube since it includes necessary cable). If these sound exactly like the z540 like the specs say then this thing is a steal for a good budget home stereo system. I doubt I will be able to put the rear satellites behind my sofa, as the z540 version doesn't use speaker wire but non replaceable, fixed length cords connecting the speakers to the subwoofer and the same can be expected for the z640, but I would be perfectly happy having 5 speakers shooting lots of sound at me with good bass. Too bad there isn't a remote for a TV hookup but oh well. I could also just hook this up in near future to a new comp I am making.

Well let yall know when I get them and how it works out in the end. I have high expectations because I have had nothing but the best with my z540 and z560.

I went to Audio Review and there were no reviews for the HTB 505...just older models. But this does look like a pretty cool set.

Naw man. They confirmed that they ARE sending me a whole set. They even told me to use the old satelites for whatever so I KNOW they are sending me a whole new set.

Zclyh3:

My subwoofer on my Z-560's is broken also...I was wondering how you went about getting it replaced. I don't have my receipt and I dont remember where I bought it from online (doh!). I was wonderin if you can just call logitech or email them or somethin and get them to replace it.
Too bad you don't have private messaging turned on because its not likely you will read this thread again, but if anyone else can help I would appreciate it.

Without having heard or seen any reviews on the z-680's how could you possibly say that that these speakers are not worth $400 in comparison to the klipsch?

I'm not singleing you out, I'm just wondering how some people can say that the klipsch are better for the money without the logitech's even being on the market yet?

Just my 2 cents....
Well the 560s easily beat out the Promedia 4.1s (not the 5.1s). So I don't think it will be that hard a task for 680s Zs to take over the 5.1 promedias.
I own both the Logitech 560s and Promedia 4.1s. And although the 560s are extremely impressive they by no means beat out the Klipsch speakers. With the 560s you get the highs and lows really well but the Promedia's deliver the entire experience.

BTW, I have the older 4.1s with the higher wattage satellites.

I have the 560s and am displeased with them. Sure, there's lots of bass, but there's no high-end and a weak midrange. I hope these new Logitechs are better. If there's someone in the Atlanta area who wants to buy my 560s, $90. They're in excellent condition.

sygyzy, if you look at the part numbers, the Z-680 part number I listed is different than the one ada880 originally posted. I don't know if his or mine is the correct one so I posted it so people could do a search for either one if they were looking for more info online. I figured I might as well put the Z-640 part number there as well to show that there was no confusion on that part number.
