I have the 560s and am displeased with them. Sure, there's lots of bass, but there's no high-end and a weak midrange. I hope these new Logitechs are better. If there's someone in the Atlanta area who wants to buy my 560s, $90. They're in excellent condition.
My thoughts exactly. I'd be willing to sell mine as well for $100. Local pickup only in the Chicago area. They are just like brand new and adult owned. Never abused and perfect from what I can see. I just want something with a little less bass boom for music, since I'm not a huge gamer or anything.

Yeah, I just heard the Z-560 today at Best Buy. Unless something was wrong, I wasn't impressed. I was more impressed with the Z-340 when I heard them! Who knows...

Man, I guess I'm just under privileged cuz to me it seems like, in their price range both the 340s and the 560s are some good boom for your buck.

I found the specs for the Z-680s! It's only 450 watts of total power! That's weak! I'd rather get the Klipsch 5.1 500 watt speaker system. But, Logitech does support Dolby Pro Logic II.

ADVANCED SOUND SYSTEM MODIFIES EXISTING AUDIO / VIDEO SYSTEM INTO A HOME THEATRE PI Date : AUGUST 2002
TOTAL POWER OUTPUT 450 watts RMS
SATELLITES POWER OUTPUT 265 watts RMS (53w + 53w + 53w + 53w + 53w)
SUBWOOFER POWER OUTPUT 185 watts RMS
SYS FREQ RESPONSE 35Hz - 20kHz MAX SPL : 114 dB
SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO : >100 dB (A) INPUT IMPEDANCE : 10,000 ohms
* Surround Sound Effects - HW decoding for Dolby Digital & DTS soundtracks, Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie and Music modes)

6 Channel Direct, Stereo x2, Stereo
WARRANTY: 2 years

SOURCE INPUTS : (1) Digital optical for DVD or CD players,
PlayStation 2, Xbox, or PC sound cards

(1) Digital coaxial for DVD or CD players or PC sound cards

(1) 6 channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 2, 4, or 6 channel PC sound cards
(1) Analog stereo-mini for portable CD, MP3 or MiniDisc players
PKG CONT: * 1 x subwoofer, * 1 x center channel speaker,
* 4 x satellite speakers * Digital SoundTouch Control Center,
* Wireless Remote Control * User's guide
* All necessary cords & cables (including digital optical & digital coaxial cables)
Simultaneously connect 4 audio sources, including PC, video game console, DVD, CD & portable audio player
* 8" diameter "long-throw" subwoofer with wood enclosure

In my opinion, it's pretty weak. BUT please keep in mind that these specs are from Austrailia and MIGHT change for the USA. The extra connections video games, DVD, and the WIRELESS remote control is pretty tight though.

They also cost around $357 converted from Austrailian currency to US dollars. They are A LITTLE BIT ($20-$25) more expensive than the cost of the Klipsch Promedia 5.1's. But it supports a lot of surround sound and the remote is WIRELESS!

*** TO ALL THE GUYS ASKING ABOUT RMA'ING YOUR DEAD Z560's***

1. Cut off the power cord as close to the sub/amp as possible.
2. Send ONLY the power cord, control pod, and receipt to Logitech - do as you please with the rest of the system (sub/sats).
3. Wait 2 months. A BRAND NEW FULL COMPLETE Z560 system will be at your door.

One problem though.
I found that the new RMA system is worse than my original.
Not because there's noticeable less bass, but because the sub distorts at very low frequencies, which didn't happen in my old set :|
Boo to the bass fix

I don't know why, but Logitech sent me 2 sets of z-560s aftering RMAing it! So that means on top of the two systems I have, I have an extra 4 satelites! I can literally HOOK UP both sets with the same sound card. 800 watts of power!

Be sure to keep in mind that more watts doesn't not necessarily mean better speakers..

There have been a few discussions on that matter in the audio forum at Sharkyforums

Huh? Where did you find out this information? I contacted Logitech about a sticky volume knob on the control pod and they said that they'd RMA it, if I sent the entire system to Logitech. Yeah.. Right. I told them thank you, but I'll just go to Best Buy, buy a set, swap out the pod and then return it.

I suspect that your new sub not being as good as your old one is caused by poor quality control. These things are cheap. I don't know if the Klipsch sounds any better or not because I haven't had a set in my home, but one thing is for sure. The quality is much better with the Klipsch than Logitech.

That's a nice way of going about it. I hope one day you buy a set of speakers and some guy switched them out with blown ones see how you like it.

They should be able to replace your control knob. You should just be able to RMA your control pod. You should really contact Logitech again about that sticky knob. Buying a set and replacing it at Best Buy is not a good idea.

Hah, I love the guy complaining about "only" 450 watts of power....

You crank your computer speakers up to 450 watts, and I hope you don't have any neighbors nearby or else the cops are comin.

that's right MontyBurns, I don't care if I have a 800W speaker set. I just have to always keep the volume down so the cops won't knock on my door.

I just got my pair of Z560s today..... after hooking them up I proceded to order the Klipsch 4.1 set... the mids are weak on the Z560s, my 4 year old Altec Lansing sounded much better... less bass.. but much better mids... Music sounds like crap on these Z560s. The Z560s will be returned as soon as I get my Klipsch, luckily I got them at a store so its easy to return.

I live at a place where you call a "dorm" room. Actually, it's an apartment that is owned by the school. So I'm still on school property. Blasting the speakers hella high is super ok. Sh!t, I've seen some people crank it up even higher. Nobody complains about the loud music, BUT when it hits 10PM every needs to be turned off. Quiet hour is basically in effect.

Maybe I should just sell my second set. Please keep in mind, this is what I have.

2 sets of z-560s and 4 extra satelites from the old set.

SO, here's the whole shabang:

12 x satelite speakers (53 watts)

2 x control pods

2 x subwoofers (188 watts)

1 broken subwoofer with the power cord cut off. I might try to get that subwoofer fixed. I can replace the power cord easily. Where can I fix my subwoofer? I guess my friend was playing the subwoofer too loud and it blew. The fuse did not blow though. Any advice?

well, there are some 'freaks' live around my apartment. They don't care when is the quiet hours. When I crank up my volume, they will just come to my apartment ask me to turn it down or the worst case call cops. I have some pretty bad experiences. I guess I'll have to move to other place like yours so I can enjoy the performance of my speakers.

I decided to get it for my 20'' TV that has RCA audio outputs on it (I also can hook it up to my Gamecube since it includes necessary cable). If these sound exactly like the z540 like the specs say then this thing is a steal for a good budget home stereo system. I doubt I will be able to put the rear satellites behind my sofa, as the z540 version doesn't use speaker wire but non replaceable, fixed length cords connecting the speakers to the subwoofer and the same can be expected for the z640, but I would be perfectly happy having 5 speakers shooting lots of sound at me with good bass. Too bad there isn't a remote for a TV hookup but oh well. I could also just hook this up in near future to a new comp I am making.

Well let yall know when I get them and how it works out in the end. I have high expectations because I have had nothing but the best with my z540 and z560.

Did your Zs come in yet. I am thinking about getting the Z-640s, it seems they would be the best 5.1s in the price range.

I have a pair of z560s. They sound quite good. You can adjust the bass response via the sound control in windows. A reasonable balance can be achieved without much effort. My first set did break. I lost one of the channels. Logitech initially insisted that I cut my power cord and send them the control unit and cord to get a new set. I refused. I told them I had heard they were back ordered and didn't want to be without any speaker functionality when I had a system that was 75% productive. They were kind enough to send me a new set. It took almost 2 months to get it, however, as I didn't have to hack up the old system, I wasn't displeased. I sent them their power cord and control panel afterwards.

I now have a 6.1 setup with two of the old sattelites added on my Gametheater XP card. That's not bad.

How did you get a 6.1 setup? I have two sets of brand new z-560s along with 4 extra satelites. I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy X-Gamer. How could I set that up?

So nobody cares that the z560s are considerably less than the Klipsch 4.1s? I mean, its roughly 50% more for the Klipsch or about 100 dollars.

Think about it, 50% more in the cost. If you were comparing cars, it woudl be a 45k care compared to a 30k care. With one amount, you can talk about buying a Nissan Maxima(quick example) on the other hand, you can almost buy a Lexus 430. Which is better? The Lexus of course, why? Because its more expensive. However, you can't say the Maxima doesn't offer a good car for the price. (Once again, stick with the point, don't start flaming maximas)

So my point being, you get what you pay for. If you decide you want to pay an extra 100 dollars for a Klipsch, then so be it. But don't automatically say the z560s suck just because they're not quite as good as the Klipsch in mids. Most of us got our z560s at a little over a hundred. Because most of the people I know and almost every hardware reviewer agree that this is the best bang for the buck. Which is why its so popular.

Sorry about the little rant, I get rather annoyed that people don't put price into consideration here. All I hear is people going on and on about how one item is better than another but don't consider how expensive it is. So stop telling me my z560s suck because the more expensive high end speakers are better.

Regarding setup on the Audigy, I don't know. I have a Hercules Gametheater XP. It has a breakout box kind of link the platinum series of the live/audigy. It has a number of options. I currently have mine setup on my computer with the analog outputs. It has separate outputs for r/l front r/l rear front center and rear center. It actually supports 7.1, but I haven't done that. Also, I hook up to my Denon receiver in the other room with an optical output from the gametheater. For quiet listening, I actually prefer my z560s for surround sound over my Denon setup. My hometheater speakers seem to require more juice to get a satisfying range, especially within the bass frequencies. At mid-to higher range volumes there is no comparison of course.

AS I recall, on my old sb live 5.1, it sent a stereo signal from one of the outputs for center and sub. I would try plugging in your front and rear outputs normally and then using your second set I would plug that in to the output for center and sub and then figure out which channel (speaker) is producing center channel content. For the "6" part, I would consult your manual or online materials to figure out which output it is.
