z680's are awesome. I've had them for about 6 months, and I replaced my component system. They cost me a little over 300.00 when I bought them. Logitech has great RMA service as well

I said it in my original post "not to say the Ultras aren't better." And I repeated it several times throughout the thread. You didn't get me to say anything that I hadn't already said numerous times.

Ugh, I'll say it again: sound quality (especially when comparing systems that are this close) is entirely subjective. Perfect example--prior to my Z680's, I owned the Z560's. Prior to the Z560's, I owned the Klipsch 4.1's. They were a bit "bright" for my tastes. That horn loaded design sure makes for great highs but the bass and midrange were a bit lacking compared to the Logitechs.

If you guys will read a bunch of reviews from quality sites rather than just 1 or 2 from a brand loyal fanboy, you'll see that the Klipsch speakers are generally praised for sounding better with music while the Logitechs tend to fare better with games and DVD movies. You really need to decide what is more important to you and go from there.

For me, there was no question. I use my computer for music very frequently, but the Logitechs do sound excellent with music so why nitpick over a small difference in SQ? Those that complain about the "overpowering" (?) bass must not have heard of the bass adjustment settings that are present not only on the Logitech control module, but about 3 different places in your OS & drivers. And besides the fact that they're better for games and movies, the big price difference and built-in DD/DTS hardware decoder basically made the decision for me.

Is there any point in using this set of speakers purely for gaming if you already have a 4.1 system? I don't use the PC for DVDs since I already have a much better HT setup.

pointless if you have a 4.1 and only want to game. gaming with 4.1 and 5.1 will make near no difference. and dont need to upgrade to the z680s either, because the sound quality for music/movies really wont be able to come close to any HTs. yes, you can dismiss any klipsch PC speakers as well as they are also poor for music. my guess is that your 4.1 system is very much sufficient for gaming purposes, unless of course you really are lacking power. the 680 sub is pretty bloaty for PC media, as is the ultras.

Actually, one of my 4.1 sets is the old-school Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400's.

Edit: the other is the Logitech Z-560.
