Logitech z5500 sub magnets - computer hazard?

I just bought the z5500, and boy is it MASSIVE. I had no idea from the pictures that it would be this HUGE. My real big concern is the subwoofer magnet. The only place that can hold the sub is right under my desk, which is made of very thick steel. It's an old school metal file cabinet type desk which could probably be used for earthquake shelter. About 1-2 feet away on the other sides of the thick steel are my tower and LCD as well as my laptop. Is this sufficient room to house the sub in? Right now I am not even going to risk wiping out my hard disks!

Y E S. Hahaha so much for my external harddrive....

Hmm I don't know, I read a PCMAG article awhile back that supposedly debunks the magnetic destruction of hard disks by subwoofer magnets. It said that only industrial strength magnets could possibly distort hard disk data... Plus, all of my computer components are behind a thick wall of steel, maybe that helps? Shrug. Still, I'm going to head over to the electronics store tomorrow to check if they have any type of shielding I can use.

Look at the harddrives in my sig. I have the z5500 subwoofer sitting a foot away, and my comp hasn't exploded.

As long as you don't remove the harddrive from it's case, and rub it against the magnet inside of the subwoofer- you'll be alright.

or sit a pile of textbooks on your sub when your lady friend moves the external HD off my desk onto that pile, and I leave my music blasting for a few hours and return to my horror that most my pictures, and videos are gone.
