I have had a set of the Logitech z-560's for a little over 2 years. They are great speakers with one big flaw. The control pod was manufactured very cheaply w/ a 4-channel 10K ohm potentiometer (rheostat). There are countless forums around the web outlining the same problem I have:
At first, I would only get a pop/crackle when I adjsuted the volume. Now, the front-left speaker plays full volume all the time whiel the others are adjusted with the broken knob. I have been unable to find a 4-channel replacement. The best I can come up with is 2 2-channel potentiometers. It steams me that I called about this problem when I was in warranty, and the CSR told me to simply exercise the knob back and forth to clear it up. This fixed the problem for jsut long enough to push me out of warranty, and now they refuse to help me.
This item cannot be purchased seperatey. My only hope at a true fix is to find someone with a set manufactured within the past 2 years. There is a QA/QC number on a sticker placed on the bottom of each item in the set (always on the sub) that tells when it was made. It is not a serial unique to the item, but a simple code outlining your warranty's length. With the right number, I could call i nand fave a new control pod in the same week.
