First production runs? Those sold out ages ago.

They are dumping inventory to make room for newer models.

Uh, do you work for the manufacturing facility of Logitech? I'm just curious, since most products containing electronic components are bought in very high quantities. Also considering that Z-680's are still fairly new and the top of the line Logitech speaker offered, I just found this comment to be strange. What new model is Logitech introducing to replace the Z-680? Thanks.

(btw, the newer 5300s are retailing $200, and they are a notch or 2 below the 680s regarding quality, according to reviews)

Furthermore, this particular best buy has been opened < 3 months, I bought the floor model 680s(which are practically mint, very low mileage) for an additional 10% off. Came with box, manuals, warranty card, even batteries.

So, final cost was $179.99 + tax (and TN tax is a whopping 9.25%!!!) = $197.54.

Not sure if the stock clearing for the Z-5300s is nationwide or just local (so YMMV), but good luck! These 680s are just the thing to replace my Klipsch ProMedia 4.1s...

Why would you want to replace your Klipsch 4.1's (unless they're broken or 5.1 is that important to you)? Just curious...

I just bought a set of these at C@USA. It is about $250 before tax with the rebates and the 10% off, but still not too bad.

Only thing is my remote was DOA. Will see how good Logitech support is cause I'd have to rebox the entire thing just to get a new remote as I doubt there will be a sensible manager that would just give me a new one at the store

He is correct. Best Buy is dumping old product line for new product line. The UPC/SKU of all production runs on these speakers are the same. Selling all inventory off wouldn't be sensible. Besides, BBY typically moves boxes. If they feared all of the speakers were "First production run" and therefore potentially defective, they would send them back to logitech for new sets.

Regarding the "hiss" in these speakers. Well.... do me a favor and try this.

Go to the volume control and mute all playback devices. See if the hiss goes away this way. If it does slowly uncheck each until you start hearing a hiss. I have an "analog" internal cable between my cd-rw and my sound card and picks up system noise. This causes a hiss in my Z-680. With it muted they are quiet.

Hey Armoth - My original intention was to replace the Klipsch 4.1s with a 5.1 system. I wanted a center channel for upcoming games (like Doom3) that will utilize true 5.1 sound. Having a center channel also makes a considerable difference when gaming in EAX 3.0. Also, the remote control (and control pod options) were more attractive than the remoteless 3-knobber on the Klipschs.

When I found the Logitechs, I bought them immediately because I knew I could sell my 4.1s (they were near-mint) for a decent price. After all said and done, I just about broke even, but have a much better sound system now.

The Klipsch 4.1 system was great, no doubt, but after having my Z680s for a while now, there is just no comparison. But it all depends on what you use your speakers for. I'm largely a gamer, and listen to internet radio, that's it...

After playing with them, I've got no hiss. But my remote only works when the computer is off. Is this normal?

Are you running a wireless keyboard/mouse setup?

I'llhave to look in the manual (something logitech is skimpy on) and the website. It is the MX Duo hooked up to the same computer as the z-680.
