I'm wondering if will take large numbers of children to die to put an end to this fucking nonsense? Didn't Chickenpox killed young children every year? Or am I thinking of Measles?
When I was a kid everyone got measles, chicken pox, and mumps. No one that I knew ever died.

How old are you? I can remember a few young kids getting chickenpox with a lesser number getting measles. However I don't recall anyone having Mumps.

I'm almost. None of those were available when we were kids. From what I read, the measles vaccine became available about 1963, although I don't know how widely at the time. Mumps, 1970s, chickenpox 1995.

I remember receiving the polio vaccine on a sugar cube at a young age - four or five, maybe - and it was kind of a big deal. Big event outside one of the local churches with kids lined up for blocks.

Okay, i was like wtf, when was a chicken pox vaccine developed because I had it when I was younger and know I had all my shots.

Measles would be the more dangerous between the two, by a fairly large magnitude I think.

I was born in the mid-late 80s and definitely remember the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) shots. But I was also just about the last generation to experience natural chickenpox. And I guess I had it pretty bad. Still treated at home level so not *that* bad in the grand scheme of things.

Think of it this way: there is always a chance you can die from chickenpox, or any virus for that matter. But death is not the only bad outcome. Diseases like guillain barre syndrome (GBR) and a host of other diseases are possible as complications from any significant viral infection.

And yes, like any viral load on the immune system, those are also a possible side effect from vaccinations. It's more rare from vaccinations than it is as a side effect from actual live natural infection, but it is still a remote possibility. Enough of a possibility that basically someone somewhere is going to get something like GBR from a vaccine every year, but fewer than those who get it from actual infections. You're playing a stupid lottery game by purposefully skipping vaccinations, and worse, people then risk the lives and health of others around them who cannot control for that variable, especially those who are physically unable to get vaccines due to any number of reasons.

Also, I was born in the mid 1960's and had all the shots that were available. My mother was a nurse and she made sure I was vaccinated. I still have my smallpox vaccine scar on my left arm.

I did have the chicken pox when I was 4 years old. I remember the pustules and the itching. My mom put tiny mitts on my hands to stop my scratching them. LOL

I'm not surprised by some of Asheville people being anti-vaxers. I must say i was unaware of a vaccine for chicken pox. Nice to know they have that now. I got it as a baby due to my sister having it. That's my vaccine for it. hope i don't get shingles.

I had shingles ( mild case ). I think I'm getting a shingles shot when I go back to the Doc in Dec.

Same and when one of us three got something, the Dr said put them in the same room and get it over with.... Have the shoulder scar as well.

60. Same age as I was a few posts up.
So, if you keep posting in this thread, year after year, you'll be immortal? Good information.

I guarentee that every one of them are transplants and have lived here less than 5 years..... Yes I live here, a native.
It is a very nice city, one of my favorite cities to visit. I understand the appeal of a lot of folks for wanting to live there.

Chickenpox can kill yes. The virus has a small chance to effect more than just the skin. A quick google search says that around 100 per year die from it. As more people get it, the worse it gets.

Chickenpox is just one of many things that will spread if this BS anti-vax thing continues. Nature does not correct stupidity in a nice way. You do dumb things, you die. You may even take a few with you that did not share in your stupidity.

even worse is that some of those infected will develop shingles later in life. That sucks even worse than chicken pox does.

I am sure people like Jenny McCarthy would be proud.
Actually there is evidence that suggests that chickenpox vaccination does increase the likelihood of getting shingles as adults. The article is odd because it sidesteps important questions like why on earth would vaccinated children be getting shingles as adults and why the incidence of shingles has been rising after the introduction of vaccination in the US.

I missed most vaccinations. Had chicken pox, measles, mumps. Probably others that I've forgotten.
Some European countries like France don't vaccinate for chickenpox but US doctors seem to think that you'll die or be severely disfigured if you don't get vaccinated.
