page 1: BS about more steps, updates take a second, troubleshooting may not be needed, how the hell is do it yourself a step?
page 2: i get all my $hit from newegg...
page 3: build quality is just as good, never had a major issue with a build
page 4: more BS, there are cases out there that look a lot better than AW
page 5: i can get all the technologies AW provides from newegg

AW provides a very valueable service which is why they are so sucessful. Add in building and no support of newegg??? AW is a slam dunk.


Oh crap I even forgot keyboard and mouse and mouse pad on newegg.com build. Heck AW might even be cheaper!!!

Uhh, no, You could save enough to build another system if you know where to buy! Very biased you are as well, you get a better case and overall better parts going into that PC than you would at alienware, in fact, why don't you post your Alienware config so we can compare(duplicate my ass, standard aurora does not come with MSI neo2 platinum and OCZ powerstream). Overall, you chose higher quality parts in newegg(not exactly the cheapest store out there either). Some people actually enjoy the learning experience from researching parts and shopping at the best stores.

Might be "more expensive" or "more of a hassle" or "more of a PITA" for noobs, but anyone with a little prior knowledge of where to buy and how to build will find it cheaper and more rewarding than buying an expensive AW system.

I'm sure their fine systems, but, have also heard of warranty nightmares and problems with AW system. They're off the mark on many of their points such as upgradability, shipping costs, paying "retail", etc.. A system very similar to the one Zebo configured for $2500+ can be had for under $2K shopping at the right places and taking advantage of shipping deals. Oh, and that will include a keyboard and mouse wirless combo as well as a attractive case which IMHO is more functional and nicer looking thaqn the AW case.

So if I do it myself it's 8 steps?
But if I use Alienware it's only 4?

Research - because if I go on Alienware I won't do any research on what I'm buying?
Component Selection - because if I go on Alienware they'll put in whatever the hell they want?
Updates - because just like a system from Best Buy, once you get it home you never have to update it again!
Troubleshoot - because all Alienware machines come with an perfect copy of Windows XP that NEVER crashes or we send a magic genie and he fixes it for you?

They could have made it less steps without being insulting. How in the hell is Do-It-Yourself a step? Sure this comparison isn?t aimed at this group, and Alienware builds nice systems, but seriously.

It's just too much fun to research/buy/build anymore to even contemplate buying eh? Even if I did buy AW, I would probably take it apart and rebuild it just for kicks.

And what about all the free stuff you can get from NewEgg when you buy parts. So Alienware where is the free Paper Weights, or Free CD-R's????? I mean really, when it comes done to getting a computer I look at what I'm I getting for free.....a T-Shirt doesn't cut it.


$130 for a Power Supply, hell when recently built my system I paid around $80 for an Enermax. And I think Alienware uses something like it. Not a $130 PS. You need to compare Apples to Apples.

I find the alienware crap would be quite convincing if you were at all unsure about building your own computer....But I find that most of my friends who are in to hard-core gaming also like to know what makes their computer tick and are good at dismantling their PC's....

Is it just my experience or are most hardcore gamers pretty happy to do DIY builds?? or are there some who just like games and don't care how it works??

Alienware is the enthusiast version of Monster Cable.

Love that propoganda. My "generic gray box" costs 1/5 what they charge and can run circles around what they sell. Anybody who honestly thinks that building is not cheaper is a fool. If you pay non-researched, full retail for everything, even at newegg, sure, you'll get up there, like with that 22" CRT (GAG!). But there are also people who sink $500+ into a video card. That doesn't mean it's a foolish investment to buy a video card.

The only thing that can compete with building your own system are ultra-cheap high performance Dells gotten through exploiting the massed-out infrastructure, like the P4 3.2 w/ 1 GB 533mhz DDR2, 160GB SATA, PCIE 256MB 6800, 16x DVD+-DL, 17" 16ms LCD, 17" LCD TV and the 4 year premium warranty, among other stuff, for <$800. THAT'S cheaper than building. (Sometimes. )

Anybody who sinks their cash into Alienware deserves exactly what they get. Just make sure you pay $100+ for a Monster DVI cable. Wouldn't want to hook your PC up with anything without the specially aligned electrons.

What the hell are you talking about? Those are the 3 items likely to survive through multiple upgrades if you buy high quality the first time! The PSU is the single most important component in the build. While I don't agree with Zebos' picks because they don't match my personal preferences, he picked high quality components that could be around for years after the rest of the system gets sold off.

This is a comparison of a prebuilt high-end system and a high-end DIY system for you, not a customer build you are trying to maximize profit on. The 3 parts in question are where you absolutely must be willing to pony up! Otherwise your high-end system is nothing of the sort IMHO.

Sooo.. instead of doing some research, buying the parts, waiting maybe 5 days for the parts to arrive, then assembling them... you buy the computer, wait 4 months, and you have a brand new computer that is no longer top of the line, the reason you bought it!

also, its apparantly quicker to complain on resellerratings.com to get a response from them than to email them directly. now that is fantastic.

what? yeah, they are completely different companys.. well, not quite, they both sell computer related products. ResellerRatings seems to be a pretty good way of rating companies - people who bought products from those companies giving a detailed explination of why they liked or disliked their experiance.

Just curious, how do you suggest they rate the companies? at the very least, tell if they are decent or crap?
