Which is exactly why a premium dealer like AW does'nt sell garbage like that. They are building a repected company not pushing junk which won't last and leaves customers with a bad taste in their mouth.

As for the rest of your post. I challeged people to match any of their systems within 80% cheaper and they can't do it, you can't do it, you don't have to pick a $600 diamondtron pick anything you want there and I guarnatee AW is not more than 20% above newegg. Which makes thier systems not overpriced considering all you get for that 20% max price premium..assembly, service and support.

LOL Disabled? I tried my "ALL" to build my own to match AW's specs and i came out 750$ cheaper which is a considerable amt, but my point is I thought it would have been a larger difference than 750$. It comes down to the "pride" of building your own sys not the $ which so many peeps compare towards! It's really on the personal opinion not what you "should do" as far as building your own pc. For those who have built their own you know what I mean by pride in the sys you build. Its all about how YOU feel not what the next person is doing!

Better off with Falcon NW or Voodoo if you want pimp systems without building it yourself, Alienware is just way overrated, funny how mainstream exposure does that to alot of companies who started out pretty good.

Alienware has some pretty solid and biased points, I can't imagine some rich boy looking through anand's forums for a quality PSU, bothering to read the benchmarks on video cards or just building his own pc. He would just blow the mobo try to get the cpu in the wrong direction and try to get the video card in the PCI slot, as mentioned before, that advertisement wasn't directed at the enthusiast at all. I can just imagine some grandfather trying to get together a rig to give to his grandson or doing the windows updates. As for you or me, just stay away from AW/Falcon/Vodoo and build your own pcs.

*Sorry, there were so many errors I just had to correct them!

BTW I guess you can call me a rich "boy" and I'm looking through the anandtech forums....

You're at least an idiot, that's clear. You didn't correct any mistakes; you merely bolded a few words and phrases. Incidentally, you identified some words and phrases that aren't mistakes at all.

Although I won't gripe about the use of BTW for "by the way", you committed an error when you didn't follow it with a comma; there are several other stylistic slipups in your post, and in most of your posts on this thread, you incompetent, nit-picking slob.

Look at who the idiot is, the "bolded" is where I MADE the corrections. If you read the original post and compare it to mine, you will see there are corrections dumbass.

Customized my own computer there. Lesse, my computer I built myself still has more options (and better, more powerful stuff except the processor now, I have FX-53, they only allow FX-55)

Cost: about $3,500

Compared to their price: $5,861.00

Yeah...

*BLEAHK* Alienware can kiss my ass.

They didn't finish their alienware time-line thing.

1) Go to alienware
2) Purchase
3) Production
4) Shipping
5) Working System

6) Credit card debt explodes overnight

7) Friends make fun of you for building a system for an extra thousand dollars or more over what they spent

8) Fragile ego starts to crumble between seeing the monthly payments and the ego-bashing from friends who value a thousand dollars or more over three or four extra hours of work.

9) Going to a LAN party you accidentally chip the multiple hundred's of dollars value plastic case and start cursing the non-existant gods, because your pretty penis-surrogate is now flawed. Friends scoff at you because they could afford ten new games for the money they saved. You're still stuck playing UT2000.

10) Your closet over-flows with old computer parts like monitors, keyboard, cases, etc, that were perfectly good and could have been re-used to save hundreds of dollars in alienware fees. Seeing them fills you with uncontrollable rage.

11) Eventual depression caused by your stupid decision causes you to drown yourself in a public bathroom urinal to save face.

I noticed it too. You used to be able to build a Low-End system for cheap. I guess they figured the "PROFIT MARGIN" was no good there, and stopped doing it.

I'm sure anyone who reads the AT articles on a regular basis knows all about the whole "PROFIT MARGIN" Scheme with High-End VS. Low-End parts.

You could actually play a lot of games (most old ones and some new ones) on a Low-End Gaming machine with the latest OS and drivers. But nobody wants to sell those anymore. Those monthy computer building guides on AT's main page arent BS. It is possible to make a good system for much cheaper than the big corporate systems.
I notice a great deal of comparisions to Automobiles in this area. One concept in the gearhead world applies here and remains consistant:
"If you put it in yourself, you'll know much more about it. That saves you countless headaches down the road."

Therein lies the catch. You can't objectively count how many problems someone ELSE (e.g. customer, friend in the dorm) will experience with a built system VS. do-it-yourself. Thats where Alienware's argument falls to pieces.

Just like a vehicle, I would reccomend you buy one first. If you like what you're doing, make your own. You probably won't go back.

I did read the original post, and it's the same as yours except for the bolding. The thing that really interests me is that there are so many stupid mistakes in the bold parts, and you didn't correct other glaring mistakes either. For instance, after "biased points" you should've used a semicolon in place of the comma that only a half-literate person would choose; your other options included restructuring the sentence and breaking it into more than one.

If you want to have an argument over grammar and syntax, this isn't the place, and you're obviously not well-qualified. I cordially invite you to STFU.

I only made corrections to make it readable, I could barely read it there were so many errors. You clearly have not read it and your a moron for saying that, there are so many corrections its not even funny, you proabably just glanced over it and are assuming that I only bolded it.

Oh yea BTW retard, if you notice he FIXED THE ERRORS! Look below his original post and it says Edited and he also mentioned he FIXED THEM!!!

Its official now. We are wasting too much time on insignificant issues for this forum.

About half of you need to get a membership here. This includes folks making posts on other topics as well.

For those who joined anandtech to discuss computers, I will try to continue the alienware discussion and not look like a hippocrit. ( ? Spelling ? )

I like getting high-end gaming laptops from the big corporations. At least until we come up with swapable parts for them. It may only work with the big desktop replacements though. We probably wont see do it yourself in the slimline versions.
I'm not sure if moving from a Mobile 9700Pro to a Mobile 9800Pro is much of an upgrade path. Its nice to see they're trying.

Here is one thing I can say that is nice about small companies who build pcs. A while back in 1995/1996 my dad needed a computer for the office/the office needed a computer and so they went to computown. There they built him a pretty good pentium system with an ASUS motherboard, I don't know how fast the processor is though. Well 10 years later I see the computer in storage and it turns out after checking out the board, it supports AMD processors upto 450mhz! It was nice to see that a computer from 1995/1996 could be out fitted with a processor from 1998/1999. I have the computer and it runs pretty well, though I have not found a use for it quite yet but it was good to know that a system builder used a quality motherboard in this AT case, I assume this computer was customized but I could be wrong!

I see people at frys come out with all these computer components like cases and power supplies but I wonder how much they actually know. Today I went into a frys and on the way out I saw a father and son with a new slick case and was wondering what they were going to do with it (hey look I got a pc for $150!) lol. Just makes me wonder if they actually know what they are doing/what % of DIY people actually know what to do.

This is off topic but that post made me remember one time I was at Fry's and a person was looking at an AMD 64 and asked the employee what a good mobo was for the processor and he goes and starts to show him boards for an Intel. That made me laugh.

The third link in my sig should tell you what I think of Alienware

BTW does anyone know what water blocks they are using for the 6800s in the new AMD SLI system they have (7500 I think it is)? There are some kind of vented brackets on the tops of the cards making it hard to see what they are.

I wanted to use Innovatek blocks but they changed the location of a capacitor on the PCIe cards and the coolers won't clear by about 1/8" !!!!! grrrr

I just was looking through the Alien Ware build vs buy page and i just laughed... countless hours of laughing... They say one of the steps is researching... Even if you are buying from alienware you are an idiot if you dont research the parts first... Yeah, all you have to do is click the selection box next to the part but you are a dumb idiot if you dont have any knowledge of the part before choosing. Then it says when building their is part selection... HAHA, you still have to select parts on Alien Ware... Shipping - free 2nd day if you go with newegg or zipzoomfly (i use ZZF cause their is a tax for my state on newegg ). Building - if you are a serious gamer and know about PC's it should be a fun and a good experience building. And it is better then waiting for them to build it and take loads of time to ship (it says it takes them a week to build!?!?!?! and they call themselves profesional??). Then upgrades? Please read what they say about upgrades! HAHA! It says alienwares special arcitechture allows for full upgrades while built PC's can have part compatability issues?? If you buy a PCI-Express card for an AGP Alien Ware then their "special arcitechture" wont make it work haha! Bottom line Alien Ware only says this to drain your money and make themselves happy... NOT you... if you are considering buying an alien ware then you are a very rich person who believes thier crap... That brings me to my final point! This is a direct quote from the built vs buy on their site: "There are many less-than-reputable distributors that are only interested in a quick sale rather than in your satisfaction"... that is under the build section in shopping... Sites like newegg are very interested in their customers and have great customer service and it is very funny because alien ware has crap service and THEY are interested in a quick sale! AHAHAHAHAHA..... Alien ware is a joke and a hole in your pocket!

Yeah, I've never gotten a BSOD in Windows XP. I haven't bought a prebuilt system since 1995.
