That would be the same people that take their pc in there to the Geek Squad.

Unfortunately, I'd bet that BB sells plenty of hardware to those who don't know any better and trust the advice of the salesperson.

I was looking to buy a laptop from this guy but he wanted about $100 more than I thought it was worth and he said "I just bought the power supply from best buy and it cost me $100 I'm not going to give that away!" I pulled it up on Ebay new for $12 dollars! the exact same model universal power supply. Man and I thought I paid too much a few times!

Best Buy does have excellent TV prices.
But I think everyone knows that they rob you blind on HDMI cables and of course the dreaded printer cable.
They have to offer good tv prices, to feed sales of a product that our parents and grand parents used to get 15-20 years out of !

I bought my Antec case and Antec psu on sale for excellent prices at BB.
Summer of 2009 they had incredible prices on gtx 260' (139.99)s and gts 250's (109.99) it all changed around Christmas of that year.

Logo is everything!! I know we men won't get this obsession some women have with bags, but I have met plenty of girls/women who dropped $2k on Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Gucci bags, etc. That's like 4 years of consecutive $500 high-end GPUs. It's all relative. BestBuy is a brand. BestBuy provides peace of mind with easy/convenient warranty/returns. Brands and peace of mind sell.

Its up to the individual staff at BB whether you get a decent deal or not. I bought my PNY GTX 460 there - mainly because the staff wanted to make a sale and price-matched an online retailer to do it.

Heh, I got a $25 gift certificate as part of a parting gift from my coworkers a bit ago... I smiled and all that but deep down inside I knew it wasn't going to be enough to cover the difference in price on anything I'd actually want.. I guess they still sell movies..

A few years ago, they would have sales that would make their video card prices competitive with online prices. It seems those days are long over.

My BFG 8800GT OC is the only computer part I've ever bought from BestBuy and only because it had just come out and they had it listed for the wrong price- it was actually cheaper than online.

I picked up one of these from Newegg today. Used the 10% off code from the hot deals section and knocked off $10. Had about $20 in a newegg giftcard laying around too. Pretty much got this card for about $60 AR. I guess it'll serve me well for WoW.

Perhaps, but the price difference on a product that fits well under $25 can't be more than $25..... So it is as nice an option as anything else in the field of "things I'd actually want".

I seem to remember getting my BFG 8800GT512 from Best Buy. The price was competitive at the time.
Now I only go there to buy something that I can use until the stuff I ordered online arrives. Excellent return policy ftw.

I sent my mother-in-law there with her virus infested laptop because I simply did not want to deal with the utter time loss that was to come of my efforts to clean it up...and I figured the price-shock would be about the only way she'd learn to stop clicking on every darn link that finds its way into her email inbox.

They will all start shopping on the internet soon enough and Best buy will exist only as a specialty shop for those too dim to truly know how to use what they sell. They then will close up shop forever like the others.

Unless of course they are not as poor at seeing future trends as I assume... but that is unlikely given the state of things. But hey, perhaps people are not as smart as I believe and they will continue to pay twice the price for no good reason.

Canadacomputers has just opened up another location in Hamilton and one in St Catherine's. They now have more stores near me than Best buy, and are usually cheaper than newegg up here...

Best buy worst place to buy anything. Employees are dumb like wow. No disrespect i had the worst experience there. No one new what a ssd was there after waiting for a hour for help to get because it wasnt out on the shelf. Also on top of that another employee i went to get a quick 850 power supply didnt know what it was. Gave me a cable. I swear this isnt make up story.

Even Best Buy's own markup doesn't make sense. My personal favorite was finding a Radeon 4850 512MB in the local store for $229...the 1GB version was right next to it, selling for $199 (both Visiontek).
