Meh...so much hate. I'd rather see him live a long life in prison...but, I must say, I'm very surprised it took this long for him to get shanked.
Hope he gets stabbed every year and is constantly looking behind his back for 15 years until someone finally slits his throat. He deserves anything he gets for torturing George Floyd for 9 minutes before murdering him.

I don't actively wish him ill, but I'm not going to shed a tear for a murderer either.

This is horrible.

It would be far better if his life simply consisted of living a very long time, with the exact same routine every day, the same meal, without change, without variation, and without stimulation.

Pain simply reminds a person they are alive. That someone still cares.

I mean the guy should be in prison, but then no one in prison should be subject to rape, murder etc.

Prison is to remove dangerous people from civil society, not to have them be tortured.

That is the part of prison and people's expectations that is depressing.
Nobody expects reform, and people relish the idea of the criminal suffering rape and beatings and stabbings.
It is a sick situation.
He's a murdering cop, not someone who has been fucked over by the system. He was the system of oppression.

This is true, Chauvin was a tyrant who abused his position of power, but it's important IMO that liberals not support the kind of extralegal "justice" that conservatives believe in and which Chauvin committed.

I agree, though I have to say there's a certain symmetry to what he is probably experiencing.

Would it be such a bad thing if it was what it took to genuinely reform him?

At the end of the day I don't believe that humanity knows enough about the human condition to know how to reform let's say 99% of people who have committed a crime, and I would prefer that we found a positive way to reform a given person than the use of the stick. It's likely better still to put most of the work into preventing crime, e.g. education, healthcare, welfare, thereby eliminating as many of the reasons why people turn to crime.

That would require our people, at large, to not be murderers and torturers.
Look at this topic. We absolutely are. Human nature drives us and their answers could not be any other way.

The level of violence in our prisons is depressing and not something to ever be celebrated. The vast majority of people sent to prison are released back to society. We want them to be less broken than when they went to prison, not more broken.

Yes he was a shithead murdering cop. His punishment is the loss of his freedom and confinement to prison. We didn’t sentence him to be beat, raped, stabbed, or murdered.

I had a family member who was raped and murdered back in the late 70’s. Our family remained focused on making sure the man convicted of the crime served the sentence he was given which was life (in Kansas life meant 15 years and parole hearings began) . We attended every parole hearing, raised points about his behavior record in prison and lack of meaningful attempts at rehabilitation and he died in prison in 2021. That was an acceptable outcome for our family and the justice system working as it is supposed to.

I'm not a liberal, and I 100% believe murderers like Chauvin who are part of the corrupt state deserve death.

It's a line from American History X where Edward Norton plays a white supremacist in prison and his black workmate tells him to be careful because in prison Norton's character is the n**ger now. Great movie if you have never seen it.
fantastic and horrifying movie. i had to look away at THAT scene.

Meh we're engineered to be like that by a government that tells us to go fuck ourselves and that we don't matter, only the ruling class of owners matters. People don't kill each other at these rates in civilized nations run by responsible adults.

that aside i do tend to agree with a post from Popehat yesterday -

"Our carceral system works by using the worst people — Chauvin, Dahmer, and other outliers — to induce us to accept and even applaud inhuman conditions involving assault, rape, grotesque neglect, and deliberate abuse.

It’s not a strategy that would work on a healthy or decent society. "

tldr: its only cool when someone i dont like gets stabbed" is not a good thing

If you think he should be stabbed or killed then lobby to change the laws to make his sentence a stabbing or whatever. As Vic mentioned what you’re cheering for is exactly the sort of extrajudicial execution Chauvin participated in.
