Think about this for a second. If a teacher knows they are being strictly evaluated based on their students' performance, and ranked against other teachers, what do you think they're going to do? They're going to teach to the test.
So, here, we have you, the public, saying that teachers need to do a better job, they need to do more than just teach to the test. And at the same time, rig the system so that any teacher who goes outside teaching to the test is penalized. The teacher's union has thought this through; hence the objections.
Hold the phone, you're saying this is not about salary? Conservatives aren't going to hear anything BUT salary - but you brought up an interesting point. Their performance reviews are screwing them over. Is that what this is about?

Melissa Zagorski, a physics teacher and union representative at the schools, said one of the main sticking points for her is the districts evaluation system, which she feels is unfair. They will use this evaluation system to get rid of higher paid teachers, she said. We think a fair contract is whats best for the students.
Thank you for bringing the truth, the actual story, to the forefront DrPizza. I think this is buried in a lot of news articles, and the information just isn't catching on.
