We once did that sort of story in our Creative Writing class in high school. It was a pretty small class, like 14 students. Only two girls. The "bad kids" were all sitting at one side of the room.
When the (ex-druggie) teacher (he was awesome) collected and read the stories (in a steady tone, with no reaction whatsoever), every single story had an abrupt transition when it passed that side of the room. Examples:
"'Come on! Shh...' whispered Mike, as he excitedly clambered up the berm. Steve and Caleb followed, and they huddled up next to a big tree, watching the moonlight play off the house. All the kids in town said that this house was haunted, and that the owner, an old woman named Ms. Leika, was a witch. As the children stared across the small, grassy field at the back porch, they could see her sitting in her rocking chair, slowly rocking back and forth and staring out into the forest. The boys felt a pang of sympathy for the old woman, sitting there all alone, just petting her cat.
And then she ripped it in half. The children started screaming as she rose out of her chair, shrieking, and threw the two bloody, still-twitching halves at their heads. There was a sickening "thunk" as one half hit Caleb, and all the entrails spilled out into his mouth...."
"Lucy and Mary were lazily floating down the river, enjoying the last few days of summer. Things were starting to dry up, and the river was much lower than they were used to, but they always made a point of enjoying a nice afternoon floating on inner tubes, every weekend. 'Hey Mary, is it true that you guys are moving?' Lucy asked. 'Yeah...we won't be able to hang out anymore. We're going to a different town.' Mary replied. By this time they had drifted down quite a ways, and the brush was getting to be annoying. 'Maybe we should turn back,' said Mary.
Suddenly a psychopath leapt out from behind a bush, grabbed Mary, and ripped her in half. The last sight she ever saw was Lucy, staring in horror as the man reached for her with bloody arms, and the pile of wilted inner tubes and small skeletons in a hole next to a tree..."
and so on. Every single story.
