porn... video warehousing and streaming takes a lot of hardware and bandwith

eh? we have plenty of clients that use more than that.
monster.com's got, like... 10? it's been awhile since I've been there.

yea, but 50 Gigabit Per Second? We only have 4 1Gbps backbone connections, and sites we host include woot.com, as well as an entire foreign governements internet infrastructure (their military, financial, and even vip commercial stuff), and we don't hardly use all of our available bandwidth, and we have several thousand servers. How could 4 racks of servers, even if all 1U, consume 50Gbps? Or even need that much? I mean, we can only provision 10G lines from our backbone providers, so we'd have to bgp 5 of those to get that... That bill would be millions....

Should you be telling people on a public forum who your customer(s) are?

You work at a datacenter and this is the first time you've had a request this big... or rather small? When I was doing some work on our servers at Internap, as I was walking in I watched an 18 wheeler truck full of dell server being unloaded by some company.
Edit: I guess you were talking about the bandwidth, and noticed it's not 50Mbps but 50Gbps.... are you sure it wasn't a mistake by them?

oh yea, 4 racks isnt much. I was posting about the bandwidth request. =)
I've seen the same thing.. big truck filled to the max with dell boxes.. crazy! It turned out to be an install of over 12 racks of 1U dells

Maybe woot is expanding? bagsofcrap.woot.com?
They must use some serious bandwidth during a woot off
I would assume a mistake as well... at 50gbps, wouldn't they just have their own lines brought in?Originally posted by: VenomXTF

haha now I see your edit!
yea, we have about 500 racks in our datacenter. I wasnt amazed at the 4 racks request, but the bandwidth....... Some of our clients use 20 racks. One of our clients has over 1500 sq ft of cage space and 150 racks.

50Gbps. I doubt it. thats not 10/100/1000 ethernet, its 10/100/1000/50000
must be a typo. I doubt any site on the planet is using 50Gbps, much less any datacenter.
