Everyone is so fast to rag on Nvidia physx, but Mafia 2 had great physx effects and was actually implemented fairly well. Smoke, clothing, and debris are all noticeably better on Mafia 2 than Mafia 3. This video proves that. Mafia 3 obviously has higher poly counts and makes heavy use of DoF than Mafia 2, but other than that the graphics aren't much better and the graphical effects are WORSE than Mafia 2.

I agree, Mafia II had good PhysX. I bought the game years ago, but finally played through the game a few months ago. It was smooth throughout. Grated, that's 5+ years since the game was released and I have a good PC by todays standards.

If the above video is any indication, very little has improved much since Mafia II. I did have a couple crash to desktop issues with Mafia II related to the game engine. Otherwise it was a great experience.

I do plan on getting Mafia III at some point. As usual, it will be months from now when the game is patched, discounted, and all add-on content released.

after playing r6 siege for a bit, I am pretty certain physx is rubbish. No comparison. if this game had physx it would probably be unplayable for many.

I wouldnt say the graphical effects are worse. That is more than just the look of the physics.

yes, before PS4 crap like this did not happen, Mafia 3 is a regression compared to the 2 in almost every way, even graphics, we had shitty ports and some games where dumbed down, yeah, but this?!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=ixlszwKVVP0

And to make things worse, devs on pc are now wasting time on DX12 marketing, instead of making better games.

The PC gaming industry is going down the toilet, and all this started when AMD signed a pact with the devil, like it or not.

You are being a ridiculous person. I suggest you step away from the games for a bit and socialize with people.

None of what you are saying makes any sense.

The game seems like a massive downgrade compared to Mafia 2. I hope anybody who bought this asks for a refund because the publishers need a wake up call - you can't just release garbage like this and expect consumers to happily hand over their money and be content with a broken and unoptimised game.

This is some extremely petty trolling. Reported.

If anyone dies in a car accident today, its your fault. Because you made this post on the same day as they died, so it has to be your fault. I get it's unrelated, but hey, that didn't stop you.

No it is not. Only from a pc perspective, maybe. Pc folks were especting the same mafia1/2 experience.
30fps singleplayer is enough for consoles. The story is good overall. It's a big departure out off the old italian mob genre, but it works. The soundtrack is ok. Graphics wise, not that sub-par compared to gta5. Character modeling looks astonishing. Pretty much all reviewers say the same.
But the developer committed the absolute sin: pc performance will forever suck. I've got a hard hard feeling that they will ever be able to make it better on pc. They were dumb enough to release it on pc like this in the first place.

Allow me to post a couple of custom gameplay benchmarks I did, for anyone interested.

They are 12 mins runs, of the Haitian mission.

Mafia III 1920x1080 High GTX 970 @1.5Ghz Core i5 2500k @4.8GHz
- 44 fps

Mafia III 1920x1080 High 7950 @1.1Ghz CORE i7-860 @4GHz
- 30 fps

Son, I'm disappoint.

I mean look at the 7950's frametimes. Appalling!

While the 970 is much better. It may have only 50% better framerate, but it was a hell lot smoother.

FLA Calculator reported 5 times more stuttering. For a system that managed Doom Ultra 1080p, at 60fps, that's unacceptable. The problem is not the video ram, since both systems used a little above 2GBs.

Here's hoping they fix it soon, because it is really interesting as a game and it's a real pity.

well apples and oranges when compared could also be disappointing... just saying.

It's not apples and oranges.

It's the same game on the same settings and the gpu usage is maxed out in both systems. It wouldn't be any different if both were run on the 2500k for example.

then why not run both cards on the same platform?

A 4.8 2500k vs a 4.0 870. Sure. They are completely the same.

Honestly, that's not even close to the same performance.

Please try to understand what I am saying.

When you have 100% gpu usage on one system, taking the video card out and putting it in a system with 200% faster cpu, is not going to give any different result. The gpu cannot go above 100%.

There could be some performance increase only in cases when there are a lot of transfers from/to the main memory and the gpu is waisting cycles trying to cope. The faster ram throughput of the better systems helps too.

This only happens when the system is video ram starved however, which is not the case here. Far from it. Both systems were using 2.25GBs of video ram.

If anything, take it as two different systems comparisons of the same game at the same settings. Maybe something like oranges to blood oranges comparison.

Optimal/more or less maxxed out settings on this Strix 1070 and 5930K is around 45FPS at 1200p, occasionally pushing past 50FPS. Graphics are PS3 era at best. Astonishing how poor this looks at the end of 2K16.

Hey, now! Not until they distribute Borderlands 3, plz!

..and this one should be more of a "real Borderlands" game with Gearbox developing and distributed by 2K--not like with TPS being a 2K Aussie project entirely.

Wow so glad I didn't buy it. Never buying anything on PC until the reviews dissect it. It's seems so far in 2016 only Doom treated PC gamers well.

The way things are going I'm slowly losing any desire to keep paying these inflated prices for GPUs. Nothing to play on them. VR is the only reason anymore.
