GTX 1060 11% faster than RX 480 @ 1080p High

Depends on the scene and if it's 3GB or 6GB 1060 being tested.
RX 480 8GB > 1060 3GB
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySc9CdAZz7I

DF has 1060 beating RX 480 by 1 fps when everything is maxed out and both are choking. Horribly optimized port on top of horrible graphics and physics.

FTFY. Like my version better. This company needs to die so someone else can come in and make games for PC that don't SUUUUUCK!!!

Mafia 2 is actually way more advanced than Mafia 3 is.

Mafia 3 vs Mafia 2

This is like Crysis 2 vs. Crysis Warhead.

Their existence doesn't stop another company from making good games. If their games do indeed suck, they will go out of business.

the 1060 seems to be doing well at 60FPS with the lowered settings, trouble is they are using a 4.2GHz i7, it would be interesting to see the same with a 3.5GHz i5 or something more average.

Fixed most of the drops by dropping AA to low, the rest on High, FPS are around 50 FPS+, drops in the Bayou. Still, its amazing how this was released in its current state.

So broken, poor optimization aside--is it actually a good game? I really liked Mafia II. I thought the focused story and actual lack of ability to do "Everything!" in that pseudo-open world was a bit refreshing. First game that felt like playing a well-crafted little movie (even though it was exceedingly derivative of Goodfellas, Godfather, Donnie Brasco and the like)--it was still a nice romp at ~15-20 hours.

Honestly the game just looks like a pile of crap.

well, OK then. I guess I should ask this in the gaming forum--where people actually play games.

I found it interesting but could only get through the first 30 min (Haitian Mission) before I got a steam refund. The game ran that horribly on PC. So. Many. Crashes. Damn shame because I really liked the second one.

If the game's technical problems weren't so glaring, I'm betting I would find it enjoyable. Something akin to a 7/10? But this is truly a case where bugs and glitches ruined the game (for me). Big disappointment.

Understandable. Pretty much why I never pre-order and only very, very rarely buy games on release (trusted devs and series with solid history--like Witcher 3).

I might give this one a go a year or more from now when I can get it for a fiver.

If I were in an uncertain positon regarding whether or not I'd like a game, I'd just grow some balls and buy the game.

Also, nobody plays games more than me. No one respects games more than I do. I am an incredible game player. I'm a wonderful player. Just fantastic.

Oh I know. Lots of people are saying. Tons. Tons of people. I investigated.

Seems like games stopped being fun after they were gone from physical media. Now every one needs updates to get it working. It is so bad that I rarely buy games released in current year.

The problems with needing updates on day 1 did not start after physical media died off. In fact, the worst years of this problem were long before Steam, but it does seem to be on the rise lately.

Yep I remember all battlefield games needing major Day 1 patches, and I'm talking 1942 etc not the latest ones . Now its just common practice but back then it was like 4-6 CDs + big day 1 patch.. and that was before fast internet

Screenshots, maxxxed out settings apart from AA on low, set the FPS to 60 but Vysnc is off:

Game seems to be using Mafia II's engine butt was cooking for too long and ended up all over the place. Passable at best. Heavy dips with foliage down to mid 40s, otherwise its around 50FPS+. Nothing in this game graphically justifies that load. Heavy on the CPU too, seen 50% usage on this 5930 @ 3.7GHz.

Allow me to post a couple of custom gameplay benchmarks I did, for anyone interested.

They are 12 mins runs, of the Haitian mission.

Mafia III 1920x1080 High GTX 970 @1.5Ghz Core i5 2500k @4.8GHz
- 44 fps

Mafia III 1920x1080 High 7950 @1.1Ghz CORE i7-860 @4GHz
- 30 fps

Son, I'm disappoint.

I mean look at the 7950's frametimes. Appalling!

While the 970 is much better. It may have only 50% better framerate, but it was a hell lot smoother.

FLA Calculator reported 5 times more stuttering. For a system that managed Doom Ultra 1080p, at 60fps, that's unacceptable. The problem is not the video ram, since both systems used a little above 2GBs.

Here's hoping they fix it soon, because it is really interesting as a game and it's a real pity.

Hello everybody. Please excuse this bump, but I found something interesting regarding the new patch of Mafia III that came out recently, so since I bad mouthed it, I feel that I need to do the opposite since the devs worked and improved the game.

So I did two new runs with the new patch. The results with the 1.040.0.1 patch.

[v.1.040.0.1] Mafia III 1920x1080 High GTX 970 @1.5Ghz Core i5 2500k @4.8GHz - 60fps

[v.1.040.0.1]Mafia III 1920x1080 High 7950 @1.1Ghz CORE i7-860 @4GHz - 36.5fps

On the GTX 970 we do have a significant performance increase, going to 60fps from 44fps. That's a 36% performance increase!

As a direct consequence, Frametimes have also gone from 22.59ms avg to 16.70ms avg. The game is indeed a lot smoother now.

Here are the respective graphs, with same ones presented together, to show the difference in a better light.

Top image is the old run, bottom image is the new one.

The 7950 also showed some considerable performance increase, but much less pronounced.

Thank you for taking an interest in them.

Actually the gpu usage was at 99% with a few minor dips towards the end of the run, but the cpu was indeed pegged to ~90% on all cores. Quite crazy really. One of the highest cpu usages I've seen.

I just bought this game. I loved Mafia 2, and given that I got the game as part of a $99 combo deal including a fairly nice Z170 mobo, I'm pumped
