Nope. A company can service any customer they choose as long as they don't use discriminatory methods to choose them. This lady is getting dropped for abuse of service (it's outlined in our Terms).

We've had plenty of those but whiel we mentioned dropping them we ended up not doing it.

There was this one customer though, and it was not really their fault, but they got spam bombed and were on our barracuda service. It took down our entire mail infrastructure and we had to remove them permanently. spammers were spoofing their email so they were getting hundreds of thousands of bounce backs along with the actual spam and kept insisting that we fix it. Not much we can do unfortunatly... That sucked though, and I felt for them, we all did, but nothing we could do.

Time for Congress to pass Universal Dialup. You can't be denied coverage for any reason.

I bet this would pass and one thing you will not see is your congressman dropping their sweet broadband packages for public dialup.

She's probably an old, widowed woman with no one to talk to. She calls because she is lonely. Call her on Thanksgiving when she is by herself, eating her turkey TV dinner.

This lady is paying us $9.95/month for service (dial-up), and she's used over $2000 in man hours for tech support so far

My supervisor made the call today to call her up and tell her that since we can't seem to resolve the constant issues she keeps having, we're going to have to drop her as a customer so she can find someone else to suit her needs.

God I hope he records this call.
So are you paying your tech support on a per call basis? Because if not, then aren't you already paying for tech support's time whether they're on the phone or waiting for call? in which case, her cost wouldn't cost a thing right?

Even then - it sort of depends. A company could absolutely choose to never serve hispanics anymore. Some states say that violates civil rights, some say only if it involves public accommodations such as: hotels, restaurants, theaters, public transportation and public parks.

If your lawyer could argue his way into that your ISP is a private club - there ya go. Discriminate based on age all you want!

If you get more calls or calls that last longer, you need more staff. Obviously her calls don't force them to have a whole extra person, but eliminating her calls would give them more breathing room before they need to add another guy. She's probably consuming 5-10% of the time of one tech support guy; think about how many regular customers they can add before that 5-10% is used up.

good for you. difficult and stupid people should not be accommodated

this will help normal sane people get better customer service

businesses should be able to serve or not serve whomever they damn well want to. discrimination laws are retarded, any business that turns away paying customers will fail anyways.

No, that's not it. She frequently yells at her husbad in the background (calling him an idiot etc). I think she's just a demanding person that thinks everyone works for her.
