LOL - Windows XP "beats"

Just installed windows XP in a virtual setup to run something and all of the sudden I hear this lol-tastic cheesy music playing and I wonder which tab is abusing me with this retro bolton-meets-collins elevator jam.

You never heard that before?! I have installed XP so many damn times it isn't even funny. What I don't get is that your sound drivers aren't installed when this screen comes up so there's no point in playing music. But sometimes a generic driver will be installed and you can hear it.

Yeah. Some people have only installed it on systems where the sound chip needs a driver. They couldn't install the driver until they get past that screen.

Those people never heard anything during the first-time setup.

I have only ever heard it on 1 install, and I have installed XP dozens of times. Completely threw me for a loop when I heard it.

Never heard it before haha I did reinstall XP a lot of times for plenty of people... And the tune is kinda nice, listened to it a few times already.

If you have an older sound chipset (like SoundBlaster SB16 or SB32), you wouldn't need sound drivers and you would hear it. Virtual machines almost always simulate an old SB sound card.

Can't watch youtube from here. Are you referring to Windows XP music that starts when setting it up for the first time after an install? If so, I always liked it. Don't they have lossless WAV or Flac version of this for download? I would like to add it to my music library.

That's the one. You can copy the WAV right from the Windows XP install disc, if I recall correctly. Then compress however you wish.

The only time I heard Windows OOBE music was when I setup a family members computer straight out of the box. I can still hear the Win 98 tune in my head with the gong in the background of rock guitar and a DJ scratching records.

I only actually heard that music twice myself, The first time the music was skipping like crazy as the computer only had 64MB of ram. I am surprised that XP even installed
1. Installing XP Professional on a old Dell PIII laptop (Inspiron 5000)
2. Installing XP on a Virtual Machine (Which worked but not for what I needed it for, I needed a working parallel port for programming a JP1 remote control)
