Looks like the S4 and S5 on a few carriers and the Note 3 and Note 4 on a bunch of carriers. My Tmo Note 3 is downloading the update now.

I still don't understand why we have to rely on carriers to deliver software updates. It should be Google makes and releases Android updates, manufacturers update their skins, then carriers update their apps. Apple does this right. The stats on iPhones running the most current iOS version make Android Lollipop look like its still in beta. 2% of Android are running Lollipop while 68% of iOS devices are on iOS8.

There is no excuse for 98% of devices running your OS to be that out of date.

The difference Android isn't a locked walled off ecosystem. Each manufacturer puts on their own touches to their version. This is both good and bad. However, google at least has moved a lot of the updated to play services so that part is now outside of the manufacturers control. You can't compare the 2 updated schedules because it is so different.

Why do we talk about this every other week anyways?

You still don't understand how Android works on OEM devices, then.

Touchwiz isn't a skin, it's essentially a fork. The frameworks themselves are modified.

You want Google to update all of Samsung's, Sony's, HTC's, Motorola's, etc. frameworks? You think that's reasonable?

As it stands, Google does release the Android updates. You're just clueless to how Android is implemented by OEMs.

You're funny.

Before launching personal attacks and making assumptions on my ignorance, you may want to read what I actually said. I even bolded it to help people out:

Luckily reading comprehension isn't a requirement for posting here.

Hilarious that you would call me out on reading comprehension.

And at no point do you counter any of my actual points and demonstrate understanding of how Android is implemented by OEMs.

I called you ignorant because that's how the OP plays out. It's ignorant to how the system is implemented. You say that Google should push the Android updates. They already do. You clearly demonstrate no working knowledge on the subject.

This. It gets tiresome to see people continuously trying to shove an Android shaped peg in an iOS shaped hole. They are handled differently, it's been repeated ad nauseum.

Nope...no idea at all.

Now I'll go back to work. Doing IT and Tech Support. At a large cell phone distribution company. Working on Android phones.

Part of me wishing that this would go to my ATT S3 as well, the other part remembering how each update message something up. So, in the end, I am fine missing out here.

Thinking about picking up the note 3 again. Apparently the update is really good on the T-mobile note 3

if anyone has first hand experience with the new new rom on tmobile please update us. I'm considering this too, I'd prefer some of the roms on xda but I haven't run into any with wifi calling working. So I need to find a tmobile rom can can easily be rooted.

I've made a phone call via wifi calling, texted, checked my email, used Android Wear, played on Instagram all with no issues.

I really think the Note 3 is the sweet spot on the Note series. I use the IR blaster, don't care about a fingerprint scanner and most of all the thing is rock solid.

Still no update for my Galaxy Tab S 10.5 which is not tied to a carrier. I was hoping it would get updated before phones with even more bloatware than Samsung provides us.

As usual VZW is MIA. Any idea if the Note Pro 8.4 is getting this?

I like the ir blaster feature on my g2, always seem to lose the actual remote. Think I'll see if I can pick up a cheap note 3. Can I port a tmobile rom to an att/verizon with all the working tmobile bands or are the tmobile bands missing on the att/verizon/international version.

Which has what kind of bearing on the development of the software? IT and tech support != OEM ROM development.

As much as I like what I've seen and know about Android, the realities of every OEM running their own forks that can be blocked by Carriers is what keeps me away.

I would probably buy a Samsung Galaxy S6 and the new Galaxy S Tab when it came out if there was a direct line of software updates coming from Google.

It is what it is though.

I don't like how everything is white. I'll probably stay on KitKat until the phone dies.

Here's hoping they push it to the wifi Tab S 8.4 soon!!

If anyone gets it on their Tab S, please report any issues you encounter. Thanks!

WTF? The Tab Pro was out before the S.

Samsung always updates the newest/flagship first, and then go back (both in 'level' and in release date).

I'm actually not expecting that the Pro tablets (Tab and Note) to be updated to Lollipop at all, but it would be great if they did.

I agree with this 100% and it is the main reason why I got the nexus 6. I can't stand not having the latest OS.
