I gave up on this and switched back to the old style. It would have been nice to have both so I could easily switch within chrome and get back to a specific tab from another app.

If you have tabs enabled in recents, then yes you lose the tab switcher inside of Chrome (and disabling tabs in recents brings it back inside Chrome).

One thing I do not like, where's my quick access to media volume settings?

Keyboard seems more accurate. Don't like my chrome tabs being separate entries in the task switcher. Really clutters stuff up.

I usually have 30-40 Chrome tabs open at once, it's driving me crazy. I'll probably change it back in settings.

A few days ago my Nexus 4 offered me the update. I decided I'd wait until I got home and could download it while on a stable wifi connection. When I got home, there was no notification of update anymore. So, I went to settings / about phone and checked for updates and nothing showed up. The next day, it offered the update again. So, I accepted. The phone downloaded the update, but didn't install it. At one point it asked me to set my gmail address as a backup account. I accepted. Still no Lollipop. Any suggestions on how to get my phone to update?

BTW: I've rebooted the phone, still no update.

Its super easy to sideload the OTA it if that floats your boat. There are even YouTube videos showing you how to do it if your not familiar with ADB.

You never said if you were stock or not. If not, that's why.

In fact, it's the only reason I can think of.

I believe you also have to press a button to install the update. I'm less sure about that, it's been forever since I actually waited for Google to update my device.

I'm a light user. I charge nightly. Historically I have been able to make it through to the evening with 25-30% remaining when I put it back on the charger.

Since the update I have had to put my phone on the charger for an hour or so in the evening as by 8pm it is alerting me that my battery is critical. Yesterday I went from 13% to 1% in minutes.

gmail appears to be my biggest battery consumer. Right now I'm at 46% and Gmail is my top consumer. My screen on time is 25 minutes, phone was 100% at 7am.

Sounds like you need a factory reset bad RGUN.

Battery life has either been the same or increased for me on my nexus 4. I usually get about 36 hours out of mine before it needs to charge.

Have you tried a factory reset?

Probably a silly question but does device encryption require a strong password now or will it work with no lock screen password (swipe and pattern?)?

Yup I hated it so I turned it off in the Chrome settings too. I like just swiping to get to the next tab.

OTA Android 5 updates got pulled *temporally* on Nexus 4 & 5 due to bugs. Even the Nexus 6 has it's fair share of bugs like uber slow encryption and crap battery life.

It's even been reported that it's best to factory reset after OTA updating because of some checksum bug causing issues with apps and so forth. So if you OTA updated then factory reset it.

I think at this time the Nexus 7 (2013) after factory reset or sideload along with the first gen Nexus 7 (most issues are fixed with a factory reset) is pretty good except a few glitches with some Android 5 functions? (I believe minor stuff?)

So expect a hot fix and if you haven't updated just wait. Or slide load but if you rely on SMS messaging on the N4, 5 or 6 there seems to be some bugs. I don't think G-Voice users are affected?

It's a major overhaul of Android so of course it's gonna have some issues.

Keep in mind that not all apps are compatible yet either. So it's your call. (Very few.)

Even more so if you're rooted and use Xposed that you'll need to decide if you can live without it (who knows how long) for the gain of whatever Android 5 feature is making you drool and wanna upgrade.

Yup I hated it so I turned it off in the Chrome settings too. I like just swiping to get to the next tab.

Well it seems that video is breaking with the Nexus 7 (2013) After watching any video like at YouTube or any video app. After you watch a few it will cease to play anymore unless you reboot.

So yeah.... Android 5 has some major kinks to work out.

Not like this is all that surprising.... Didn't even iOS8 have launch issues too?

I assume the reasoning was that it is far easier to reach the app switching button than the tab switching button on the top of the browser - especially as phones are getting bigger with every release!

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of downloading it and doing it myself, but I figured I'd just let the phone do it automatically. Less chances for messing things up (which apparently didn't work out so well!). I'll have to search for those videos when I have the time and see if it something I feel like doing.

Bone stock Android OS. I don't really have a need to mess with my phone. I'm sure that there are benefits, but I'm not sure that I'd really notice or need them.

I'm thinking that I'll pass by the T-Mobile store when I get the chance. My daughter is coming home on Tuesday for Thanksgiving, and I know she wanted to go. So, maybe 2 birds with 1 stone. That would give me the time to decide is I want to do this anyway. Soccerballtux points out that maybe Kit Kat isn't broken, so don't fix it at the moment..

I did the OTA on my 2013 Nexus 7 followed immediately by a Factory Reset.

I've been problem free so far except for MX Player Pro which just needs updated.
