May have found my issue. It appears that my WiFi never connects. It is constantly trying to connect to networks that are saved, but the connection never happens. If I turn off cellular data, I get zero connection to my device.

It's in a connection loop that eventually times out and says "poor internet connection", despite the fact that the signal strength is almost 100%.

Yup, pretty sure that was my issue. After having identified that issue and eventually resolving it, my battery consumption is much better. Im currently at 80% battery after 6 hours, with a projected battery life leading through tomorrow at noon. My issue appears to be exclusively related to WiFi cycling and not being able to connect fully to known networks.

For those wondering, I was able to finally get a successful connection, I reset the phone several times, the radios etc with no luck. I was finally successful when I reset the actual wireless router.

I assume the reasoning was that it is far easier to reach the app switching button than the tab switching button on the top of the browser - especially as phones are getting bigger with every release!

now that's an idea...do it only when chrome is in the foreground

Update on my 2012 N7.
Found some info on wiping downloaded app cache. Tried this and it made a HUGE improvement.
Still not as smooth as Jellybean, but better than KitKat.

Been there a couple of times myself.

Battery life is worse now on my Nexus 5 with Lillipop. I also don't like the graphical changes.

Is there a way to change the white background for apps to a darker appearance?

I updated my Nexus 5 this morning and my feeling so far about Android 5.0 is a resounding "meh".

1 - Switch from dark to light theme without an option to change back.
2 - The direction-sensitive screen unlock swipe. Congratulations Google, no apparent options to customise this behaviour and neither the call app or the camera app as a "quick access" facility is of any use to me.
3 - More screen space wasted on options screen.
4 - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE KEYBOARD!?!? Flat interface and the numbers give it a cluttered look!
5 - The exclamation mark on the phone signal quality is irritating; it's like a teen complaining that I don't have Internet on my phone right now.

The keyboard theme can be changed back to the old style if you prefer. Long press on the / key next to the space bar to access settings, then appearance, theme. Select either holo dark (or light.)

Thanks, that makes a big difference to whether I'll put up with Android 5 or try to switch back to the older version.

Well it seems that video is breaking with the Nexus 7 (2013) After watching any video like at YouTube or any video app. After you watch a few it will cease to play anymore unless you reboot.

So yeah.... Android 5 has some major kinks to work out.

Not like this is all that surprising.... Didn't even iOS8 have launch issues too?

Yeah this bug is really starting to piss me off. It's not just YouTube either. If a website uses the Android video player it won't play until I restart my tablet. It's incredibly annoying.

Battery life seems noticeably worse on lollipop on my 2013 Nexus 7 even on a fresh install. The only thing it seems better at is no random wakelocks. I'm considering going going back down to KitKat. I kinda liked the gravitybox xposed module.

The clock / timer app may just be the clincher for me to downgrade though, I really don't know what the Android developers were smoking.

The app on 4.4.x was great, when you loaded it and you already had a timer running, it would show the timer running straight away, then beneath that it showed you the other pre-set timers in order of the timer length.

This new version shows the timers in an apparently random order and the currently running timer at the bottom of the list. Why? It's like they looked at this app and tried to think of ways to screw it up!

I am not a fan of the multi tasking window and prefer how slimrom does it: http://i.imgur.com/giVeSkw.png

No way, that's ugly and old Android style, just giving the icons. I still prefer the app switching up to Kit Kate. I'm not a fan of the 5.0 way.

I also hate not being able to easily put it in silent mode. You literally have to do multiple things to go into silent.

Finding myself having to reboot my N5 so that reset the battery drainage. This morning after unplugging my N5, not even using it, it was down to 50% in a hour. After rebooting it, it's back to normal.

Also, with the email change which is beyond stupid, played around with Nine and Mailwise. I'm liking Mailwise.

Is there a voice command to close Google Now or browser window it opens?

Maybe, but you can easily see 10+ apps at once without scrolling...

I like the part where you'd give up on Lollipop as a whole, based on the easily replaceable keyboard.

I don't know if you just didn't know that you can use whatever keyboard suits your fancy (I'm using Minuum at the moment, may drift back to Swiftkey), how long you've been using Android, or what, but if you don't like a particular thing, just change it and stop whining.

Don't like the lockscreen? Get a new one. Get a new dialer, launcher, contact management, gallery, keyboard, email client, etc. Just stop throwing hissy fits over things that are completely under your control to change.

If you would like to discuss this without a smug, superior and condescending tone, let me know, as well as reading my other posts in this thread, which would help you realise that my current opinion about Lollipop is not simply about a keyboard that I currently have set in a way that suits me just fine. Otherwise I'm not interested in having a discussion that shows all the signs of starting on the wrong foot.
