Getting the "puppet" effect in CS:S where players are all attached to these huge "bungees" or "strings." Here's a screenshot:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Mrvile/de_dust20000.jpg

Also getting some more weird glitches:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Mrvile/de_dust20001.jpg

Here's another screenshot for good times:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Mrvile/de_dust20004.jpg

Update:

Upon exiting CS, my desktop gets these little specks all over them. Here's the screenshot:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/Mrvile/Gross.JPG

I use the 71.89 drivers for my video card, made sure I had the latest chipset drivers too, so what could be causing the problem?

UPDATE:

Another pic added and a pic of my desktop after exiting CS added.

UPDATE:

Turned AGP down to 4x, it worked, turned back up to 4x8x and it's still working so I guess it works now? Problem is fixed, hopefully forever but can anyone tell me what the problem might've been? Again, the key was to change the AGP down then back up.

The bungee thing looks like a program glitch. A control point gets stuck on a certain location and the surfaces still filled. I have had this happen working on models and it is not pretty.

The other looks like you are shooting holes in the ceiling. "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" (Star Trek - the orginal series reference.)

Haha, any way I can fix it? I installed CS through the internet (AKA downloaded from Steam) instead of from the CDs since my friend is borrowing my CDs, so I dunno, maybe it's that?

Your GPU is probably overheating. Try to run it at stock speed. And are you getting the same problem with other apps? Like 3Dmark05?

i would like to know this for a friend of mine....his x800xt pe does this in HL2 and CS:S and only them two games, doom3 is fine, new splinter cell is fine....i told him to clock it down abit to like 500mhz (since the x800xt is no slouch) but it still happens.

Pray, I know it's not overheating because first it's clocked at stock, and second the NV5 does wonders on the heat. Also, this doesn't happen in 3DMark05 or HL2, doesn't even happen in the CS:S video stress test, just CS:S. I know they aren't artifacts otherwise I'd be getting them everywhere. Hmm...

Does it happen all the time? Every once in a while for a few builds DAOC would do this while I was riding a horse with my 5900NU.

But after a certain patch it went away and never came back.

Weirdness. Aside from overheating issues... perhaps try reinstalling? A bit of a faf yes but worth a try.

Looks like you walked right into a very obvious trap. Im just waiting for some demo device beneath your feet to explode

Lol that's what I'm about to do - reinstall the whole Steam shebang, but installing CS:S takes an hour and that's a long time away from CS!

Only time I saw that on my card was because of overclocking or overheating. I got *exactly* what you are seeing. Usually the GPU core was overclocked (overheated) to much and vertex data gets scrambled (ie moved around, like in your pics), memory overclocks gave random odd textures or blocks.

Hmm that's odd, because my GPU is at stock speed right now (which is 370/1000 for the BFG6800GT). Anyway I reinstalled and I'm still getting the problem. Any other suggestions?

Those spots are what I refered to in my other post when memory starts acting up.

Have you tried underclocking it. How is the general case air flow?

Is your card on its own power connector (if it has one). does your ps have 24 pin mobo connector (not 20 pin)?

Anything else in your system overclocked (like the AGP/PCIe bus)?

Try upping the volts (slightly) to the vid card in the BIOS.

Have you tried disabling fast writes? My 9800 pro gives me glitches like that if I leave fast write on.

I can't really underclock it because I don't have any overclocking programs, and I don't want to mess with it anyway. Case airflow is good, vid card has NV5 on it which helps it cool.

My card is on its a power connector, however they also branch off to the CD drives. I've never had a problem with this setup so I don't think this is the problem.

Everything is at default BIOS settings right now. I usually run my AGP at 1.6v (stock is 1.5) and the frequency at 67 (stock is 66). I can try changing those around...

Also, that first sentence about the memory...do you mean system memory or video memory?

Well, raising the AGP voltage and frequency didn't work. However, I did notice that I get someone less bungees and less specks on my desktop...I dunno if this means anything...damnit why me??!

I just disabled it and tried, glitches were less but still there and definately noticeable, specks still on desktop but only a few. Seems like it's slowly getting better...

I got the bungee thing in a mod for UT2004 with my 9800.
I think they went away after I added aftermnarket cooling (Arctic Cooling silencer rather than stock heatsink), or after I underclocked the card significantly.
ie: heat issue, whether you accept it or not
