Already posted but...

What is there to do?

I'll be there from June 29th to July 3rd. Just a lil get away with the gf.

Are there ways to take a day trip to LA for the day without renting a car?

My hotel is right downtown.

Also, any info on transportation from the airport to my hotel?

Thanks guys!

The bay, harbor areas pretty much makes up the sightseeing part since it's close to the ocean. Little shop commodities along the area like fish markets, restaurants, random miscellany stores. Seal beach is a small nearby beach.

You can probably take the metro to LAX if you can find a way to the station. It's a straight way trip along the 105 fwy.

Jesse james will mess him up, I think :awe:.

Oh yeah, forgot - Aquarium of the Pacific if you're into that.

What is the nature of your visit if we may ask?
Aside from the ocean stuff.. there's not really much nature to sightsee in busybody LA unless you start going towards the mountains. the Aquarium is as far as it goes for interesting and marine nature things.

You will need transportation if you plan to check out all the wonders and attractions of LA.. Southern california is a land made for automobiles and hostile to all other forms of transportation.

Nightlife is done in local bars (bj's etc), piers (santa monica has the bigger one), 3rd street promenade as a few to name. Daytime people are bustling around doing their job crap.

Then there's the usual LA attractions.. shopping, plaza, movies, town centers, LB has one, but it's a bit up northwest-ish.

To be more detailed on transportation, you can most likely take the metro green line from LAX and then switch to blue to go down to LB depending on where you're staying.

Then for the rest, walking all the way around will be a bit tedious. You can try the local buses and stuff. I don't recommend going too far on them because the bus here is for people who usually don't seem to be able to afford luxuries of life like cars, homes so you'll find some crazies on there.

I recommend the aquarium. In the same area there is a place where you can rent a segway or do a segway tour.

Isnt this the kinda thing you should ask before buying tickets?

LB isn't much of a touristy/relaxing place. OC/LA/SD would have been better airports to fly into.

LB airport is actually right in the middle of an industrial complex area (it used to be a Boeing/McDonnel Douglas Plant), there isn't anything near it of consequence. You will most likely be stuck taking a taxi or something, unless the hotel has a shuttle (doubtful, you'll see how ghetto the LB airport is when you get there).

But yeah, public trans in this area is next to useless and populated by the people you specifically avoid public transport for. If you want a day trip just rent a car for a day and have the freedom to do whatever you want to do without waiting all day for busses, etc.

This x 20. I know you probably got cheap tickets on JetBlue into LBC, but there's not much to Long Beach. Aquarium, Queen Mary, some waterfront, and then boredom. I guess maybe you can go to Catalina?

Really consider renting a car and going to a real beach city.

If you want to do public transport, you'll have to figure out how to get on the blue line, which I think you can take to downtown LA, and then you can hop on the Red Line to, say Universal Studios, or to Hollywood/Highland, Olvera Street, etc. Or somehow get onto the Gold Line so you can drop into Chinatown.

Or you can take the blue line to downtown, hop on a Rapid (I think it goes to Union Station) and then take that to Santa Monica down Wilshire, but that's like three hours right there methinks.

I really don't care, we'll probably be at the pool a lot.

Also, the beach will be nice to see since her and I really never get to see it.

I did read that the blue line goes to downtown LA, so I think we'll be spending a day there for sure.

Other suggestions? Really wanna find some good grub lol.

don't stop at gas stations after dark. We almost got carjacked but there were other people in my vehicle so perps ran off. That would have sucked.

If you rely on public transportation, it might take you a couple hours one way, depending on your destination.

I'm a local LB. I can give ya some tips for some landmarks:

- Signal hill park , a great sight seeing view.
- Queen Mary or the submarine.
- LB aquarium of the pacific
- theater ? @ downtown
- The long beach shoreline village (lots of good eats).

Plus, there is a trainstation at downtown, I'm not familiar the lines and what not. But it is definitely there and takes you up north to LA.

good luck !
