B120 - not sure it's hot at any price, but definitely not at that price. There have been lots of B130 deals at that price, and you wouldn't have to spend long at the outlet to do a lot better.

outlet - then sort by price

If you want to thread crap, please create your own and do so.

I find no B120's there at all. No Inspirons under $500. No new Inspirons there under $639.

Read the rules. If it doesn't interest you. Move on.
What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

allisolm, I don't know why people just continue to threadcrap for no reason. It's obvious he doesn't like the B120, so he should just move on. There might have been a B120 under 500 but the Outlet changes so fast that it really is luck of the draw.
The deal you posted is actually a nice deal even though it has a rebate. The basic B120 only has 256 MB of Ram and no wireless feature and a 90 day warranty. This model also includeds a 1 year warranty which is not standard with a basic B120. This one has the extra 256 MB of Ram and an included wireless which makes this a pretty nice deal for 449 AR. Free Ground shipping is also a plus. Just the 24.00 handling.

I have a B120 I bought during BF deals in November last year. It cost me a little more since I had to pay tax, but no rebate was involved. But it the same configuration I have. 512 MB Ram, CD/DVDRom writer, bult-in wireless, one-year warranty and 40 GB hard drive (I have the Toshiba drive with 16 MB cache). Final price for me was around 475-480 with tax, shipping and the CA 8.00 environmental fee. The laptop's been working great and it isn't a slouch either.

Edit:
I just had another thought to make this even cheaper. There's 35 off 300 coupons on eBay for 0.99 to 1.98 delivered to your email instantly. They say they can be applied to notebooks also. That makes this deal 549 - 100 MIR - 35 for coupon + a buck or two for the coupon + 24 handling. That's 440 shipped after rebate. If someone has a better deal for a basic system, post it. Just don't complain about it.

I picked up a V2552us from CompUSSR a couple of weeks ago for the same price, I absolutely love it. I think it's the best of the three you have listed there for these reasons.
1. Full size keyboard, I have no problems typing on it like I would my desktop.
2. ATI integrated graphics, lighyears ahead of the GMA900 that is in the other two. I can actualy manage to play WoW on it (after adding a gig more memory), with some settings turned down.
3. Though it's not listed as such it has B/G wireless, and a brightview screen (the upgraded screen for that model).
Edit: Just as a note when I purchased mine, the $230 off was an IR not E/MIR

You're doing no one any favors suggesting a B120 at that price. Almost everyone thinks that 14.1" screen on this chassis is a problem. And since when is paying the same price someone paid 6 months ago (November) a good deal?

The suggested alternative is to look for a deal on a B130 with a 15.4" screen, you seem to have missed that in your haste to rant, or consider one of the other options.

Not all advice here is good advice, to suggest that people ignore that, just doesn't work. Rants don't change facts.

It's a "fact" that your previous post was thread crapping. You made no mention of problems with the screen. That would have been a legitimate concern and links to articles/opinions about this problem would be helpful - rather than "almost everyone thinks" ...

It's a "fact" that lots of times prices paid 6 months ago are still deals today. Less than $.25 per GB hard drives were a deal then and are still a deal today. If you need a notebook right now $450 is still a good deal.

It's a "fact" that, although the search function leaves a lot to be desired, I have tried and failed to find "lots of B130 deals at that price", and it wouldn't matter unless there were CURRENTLY deals for it at this price - in which case, please post them.

It's a "fact" that people who are in need of a laptop don't necessarily have time for one to appear at the outlet. (There are still no sub-$500 laptops of any kind at the outlet).

I made no assertions that the laptops listed were available at the best prices ever, just that they were the lowest prices I see for laptops this week. If you know of better ones, please post them so that we can get those deals as well.

Not ranting - just giving you the "facts."

tedkelly: did you have to work at becoming an a-hole, or were you born that way?

allisolm: he's still right... I see 12 models at dell outlet under $500. Inspiron 1300/B130, Inspiron 2200. But even so, the "suggested alternative" is on par at best with your deal. It's definitely no hotter.

Re-read the title. allisolm provided 3 sub-$500 choices for anyone wanting to buy an inexpensive notebook this week. Re: your arrogant "You're doing no one any favors..." speech, that would most certainly apply to you. Threadcrapping without details supporting your opinion is both worthless and unwelcome.

I think the b120 deal isn't that bad but i jumped on the b130 deal. 499 for a 1.5M, 512ram, 60g hd, 15.4" screen, etc... (no rebates). 515 total shipped. just grab a 35off coupon on ebay for a buck to bring it down more.

regardless, appreciate the post. anyone and everyone is always looking for a good <500 laptop deal.

now someone buy my psp on eb@y to help pay for my lappy!

Looks like good prices to me, thanks. When I get my taxes done, I'll see how much I got left. I think the sempron looks like the best deal??

Found an old unread PM that linked back here .... You know, for all the supposed courtesy some here imagine there is, there's more namecalling, profanity, and general foolishness in this thread than in a year's worth of threads I've read at FW. If you have to resort to calling someone names, you've admitted that you don't have anything better to say.

And the sanctimoniousness and huge long rants about not "thread crapping" is laughable, both because it wastes bandwidth and energy that could be put to better use, and because it doesn't pass the ultimate test - it doesn't work. It doesn't get people to buy the good stuff.

If something isn't really a good buy, I'd much rather have someone tell me that, rather than saying nothing and "moving on." Especially on a big purchase.

Yeah! And then there's those people who can't let something go, even when it happened months ago, and insist on dragging it up and restarting an argument.

Agreed.

tedkelly. It was stupid dragging up a 3 month old thread just so you could speak your mind. Simply stupid. Move on.
