Hey
-Windows98
Athlon650
Geforce DDR
SB Live
All with the latest drivers.
My problem is- After the windows screen, it sticks me to the spot where I type in user name/password. This works fine, but when I hit ok, there is a huge pause- sometimes up to 5 mins where it just site there. I can move the mouse, but nothing happens. I changed it to bypass the log in screen, but now there is just the same pause with out the log in bar there.
Whats wrong?
Thanks
-Kyle

Check if your network adapter is looking for a DHCP server, if so then specify your own ip address

Search for a freeware program Boot Log Analyser. This software is great for pinpointing the time taken by all programs loading right from DOS till Windows finishes loading. It gives time in seconds for all the programs loading up.

P.S.....here is the link for BLA....

At first I thought it could be the Sb Live!, which many people have had problems, until I read more into it, I wouldn't think it that.

Hvae you ever thought it was the Geforce drivers, I always have problems with the 5.xx set of drivers.

Check your network settings. When/if you have your computer connected to a network and suddenly that connection is gone it will still try to get an address from DHCP, and/or obtain any information it needs from the PDC/BDC, blah blah blah... anyway the point is that make sure you disable the network connection if it is on. This is a big thing w/ win2k, if you have a NIC it will automatically enable your network, you have to manually turn it off if you are a stand alone box.

hope it helps..

This isn't adding much but that sounds like a big pain in the ass.

Hope you get it fixed. If you do please let us know what the problem was.

Hmmn, that's a new one. Usually, from experience, if its a network adapter that's causing the pause, the pause should be before you enter the Windows GUI, but yours is when you log into windows...
Still, try removing any network adapters(eg. ethernet cards) and see if your bootup/login sequence is any faster.
