Long second toe

The gene for a long second toe is dominant, but I've also heard that it is linked to tallness. I haven't found sufficient evidence on google to draw any conclusions. What would Mendel say?

I have enjoyed reading every single post here! Thanks to all you Anand-techies for humoring me, and even giving this post some thought no matter how far out in left-field it began.

I have longer second toe, i am 6'
My ex gf had longer second toe, and barely hit 5'.

I dont think there is a comparison between long second toe and tallness.

an old theory was that an elongated second toe was an indication that the person is a serial killer.

I don't think that's true though

LoL I think it's one of those old myths based off a few coincidences...genes are each responsible for a single trait, to my knowledge.

Firstly, there is the problem of defining a gene at all- what exactly do you mean by it? In general, any one coding section that corresponds with a particular protien is going to be responsible for every trait in your body, to some extent. Given that embrygenesis is a chaotic system to some degree, removing an entire 'gene' will change a lot.

On the other hand, a Dawkins-like evolutionary gene is a particular change in the genome that is defined by its phenotypic (visible) effect. So the substitution of a single base pair is an evolutionary 'gene' and may be resonsible for just a single obvious phentypic change, like tallness or a longer second toe.

Id have thought that tallness is only somewhat under genetic control anyway; a heritability of perhaps 50%? Whereas longer second toes might be under strong genetic control, for all I know.

Reminds me of the story surrounding finger length. Text It seems gestational testosterone exposure plays a role. Tricky question as to whether that's environmental or genetic.

It doesn't necessarily mean that the gene that causes a longer second toe also causes tallness, but it could mean that those who have that gene, may also tend have the other.
Another example of this is people who appear to have a slight crease in their ear-lobes are also more likely to develop heart disease (I don't want to scare anyone here), and my father was proof of that.
Of course, this doesn't mean that the crease itself raises one's chances of developing heart disease, but it is thought that those who carry the gene also carry a gene that causes the body to store fat more readily (if I've remembered the documentary correctly).

I'm not exactly sure how tall I am, the last time I was at the doctor's for a physical was in 8th grade. Supposedly I am 5'8'', then again I question it because people who swear they are 5'9'' are the same height, and same with people who swear they are 5'7'' that are my height as well. So let's just say give or take an inch. Oh and of course, my second toe is a lot longer than my first. The strange thing is... I am the shortest male in my family, 3'rd shortest in the generation of males(out of roughly 11 males, including cousins and a brother). The two that are shorter than me have a really short father, so that might contribute, but my father is taller than me, and so are all my uncles from that side of the family. I always thought that I ended up shorter than the rest because during my primitive puberty days, I never slept for more than 4 hours straight, and here I am kicking myself for it. Oh and, for the "taller" males in my family, they aren't too tall either, 6'2'' max, give or take an inch.

Edit: When I say shortest male in my family, I mean my immediate family compared to my father and brother. When I say generatin of males I mean the children of my aunt's and uncle's, thus my cousins, who would share similar genes.

Mine's about the same length as my big toe and I'm 6'2". Maybe it helps with stabilizing the extra height?

I'm 17.

Anyhow...I like that post about it being related to stability. Like a pair of rudders for your feet.
