Also, one thing I think about how useless the so call the final exam are. All they are designed to do is to strain the student at the end of the school year. In work environment, people are allow to look up information whenever they want, so why can't student? Then I guess why some professor support an open book exam policy.

we have been thinking of putting it off until after dinner. but not sure thats great either. i have read reports that say its better for the child to do right after school since its still fresh. If you put it off until after dinner they have a harder time recalling what they were asked to do.

But also the kids need time to run around and act like little kids. Now that winter is comeing and its dark at 7pm i think we will let her play outside until dinner (5pm) then do homework and then she can play inside.

that gives her 2 hours of playing outside on weeknights.

hell if any other parents in the same boat got any ideas let me know.

finals aren't that bad. what i do have issues with is Teh state exams. the ones that take like a week to do. Since they are tieing teachers pay, schools pay etc ot them to many are just trying to teach the test.

My wife worked as a teacher in the 3-5th grade. she got frustratred that she was to teach the kids what was on teh text and how to do the test for a good part of the school year.

while she loved being around the kids and teaching them the admistration drove her nuts (also the pay sucked heh)

OMG, I remember in my last year in high school, 2 weeks before the final exam, my chem teacher come in and say we are now require to study for both the state exam and the final exam.

Kids in Asia don't do well because they stay in school longer (In fact the article point out some Asian country kids stay in school less), they do well because they have parents who care. People in this country, especially parents with kids in school need to stop pointing fingers and start to face up to their own responsibilities. Or else nothing is gonna work to improve the crap education result in this country.

Parents are no longer giving children the attention and encouragement required to excel in school or in anything else for that matter. Parents are spending less and less time with their kids. This will always have a negative effect on their growth in so many ways.

In my school district they would fudge the numbers by sending all the druggies and lazy kids to a different school. School in this country is just a glorified day care.

Edit: oh a problem with longer school days is that normall the kids go to school for 6hrs, and that gives the teachers 2 hrs a day for prep time and grading papers. Now the teachers have longer days to and we cant pay them anymore.
