The sad part is that some fools try to incorporate every giant word they can think of into their sentences in an effort to seem intelligent. Instead of getting the point across in the clearest, most concise way possible they try to confuse the listener, which defeats the purpose of talking to someone.

Thai does have their own set of characters (Sanskrit/Khmer), but they use the alphabet for sounding out their translation similar to the Japanese. It is a damned hard language to read but quite easy to speak for Vietnamese or Chinese.Originally posted by: konichiwa
lowtech, how does that really work, doesn't thai have its own set of characters?

You know what I never understood?
When a language has a completely different alphabet than English, they have to spell it phonetically using English letters to write it in English. With that said, how come I sometimes see a "phonetically" spelled word that is not pronounced anything like what the English letters spell?
I can see how with another language that uses a similar alphabet, such as Spanish or French, they may just copy the word over the same way it's spelled in their language to keep it easier. But when the language in question is one that doesn't use English letters and must be spelled out phonetically, shouldn't it be, well, spelled out phonetically?
