Near 48 hours on a weekend trip. I'm not wired for that. The group I was with told me to go to sleep or I'd get knocked out.

36 to 40 hrs when I was 22.

I wasn't working, just goofing around with friends and didn't bother to sleep.

Around midnight the next day I started acting really strange. I decided to drive home and go to bed. On the way home I started hallucinating and saw things on the side of the road that I knew weren't there.

I made it home safely and then slept for about 18 hrs.

I never want to do that again.

About 4 days *(with chemical-assistance :sneaky: )

I then proceeded to sleep for 2 more almost without interruption.

This was back in my late teens btw.

I've experienced that after 18 or so hours of coding without a break. Bushes look like people. You swear they're moving. You think that bag in the middle of the road is an animal. I'm not sure it quite it qualifies as an hallucination, but I've been there many times, and without going much more than 30 hours without sleep.

Historically, soldiers at war often went long periods without sleep. It was "accepted." Studies relatively recently have revealed that sleep-deprived soldiers (and others, obviously) are very inefficient and can make really bad decisions, often resulting in "friendly fire" tragedies, killing of innocents, etc.

I read a very good book recently about sleep: Dreamland: Adventures in the Strange Science of Sleep

For me personally, when I haven't slept in two days my brain seems to kick into overdrive. I'm the exact opposite. When I was in my twenties and became sleep deprived I'd get the shits. Not so anymore. LOL!

About 49 hours, was at a poker table at a card club, outside of getting up to go use the restroom a few times I didn't even get out of my seat. At the end I went big with what I thought was an Ace high flush on the flop, turns out I just had Ace high. Lost $400 on that hand and went home. What cemented me leaving was I stood up and slammed my hand down yelled out I got the nuts baby! then did a celebration dance. Followed by the dealer politely pointing out my hand was an Ace high and I lost. I had to look at my hand and the board 4 times before I saw it. Was too tired to drive so I got a room and slept it off. I was playing poker for about 46 of that 49 hours.

playing Hold Em for almost 2 straight days is never a good idea lol.

Currently 32 hours. Probably another 8 to go before I really go to sleep.

that's what made me scared to drive home after 30 hours of writing code. i really thought about getting a hotel room instead of driving the 45 minutes.

but other than some dizziness, i don't think i saw any hallucinatory bears along the highway.

The peripheral vision hallucinations are real bitch if you happen to have a cat or cats.

Stayed up 3 nights in a row while in college. So, 80ish hours or so. I still vividly remember some of the hallucinations I was having that 3rd night. I was swirling a can in the air and asking people if they could see the light that was orbiting it - like a little ball of light, a planet, going around the can, matching my motion. I could not be convinced that it wasn't there.

I've only ever pulled 1 all-nighter, cramming for a test, and that didn't prove helpful.

I did a 40 hour stint once getting a server recovered from a raid controller that freaked out and nuked the array. It involved a 4 hour drive, an emergency plane flight from Des Moines Iowa to Tucson, Arizona. Then a whole pile of work discovering that the tape backups weren't viable and going to data recovery software to pull data off of what it could read read off the drives and then ultimately rebuilding a database to get a business working again.

Do not recommend.
