lookin for a good 17" lcd monitor

i'm currently looking at the nec lcd1760v, but i'm wondering if there are any other monitors out there that may be better while staying around that price range. last i looked this was 445 at newegg so any input would be helpful.

Check out the Samsung 172T..The web is full of positive reviews of this thing but I'm not sure about it's price..You can look it up at Pricewatch though..I've worked a lot with the 152T (the 15'' model of Samsung) and I can tell you it's just great!

Talk to prplxd. I just sold him a 17" KDS LCD that retails for around 4 C-bills.

I didn't bother to open it up before selling it though, so I couldn't give you a rigorous description of its quality. I'm sure he can let you know what he thinks though.

I am using the albatron 17" lcd from newegg...love it...its only 400...or for 40 more you can get one with a built in tv tuner, speakers, and svideo and audio in...not a bad deal IMHO

I just got the Cornea CT1702

Very happy with it. Comes with composite/RCA input, S-video input, analog and digital inputs, coaxial/antenna input... the works!! I'm currently using it via analog and there's no ghosting or anything. it has a tv tuner, sound input and output so I can output to my computer speakers or whatever i want. Very nice monitor. I've tried watching tv with it and playing my PSone on it. They all work.

Next step is to try watching movies on it ... when i find the time to

I've been bargain hunting for 17" LCD's the last week or so....
This is a great deal on a great monitor: 17" Benq fp767
It has a 16ms response tmie (currently best response time out there i beileve) and an excellent 400:1 contrast ratio... all for only $380 shipped.

I've also heard good things about the Qrium f107 - for $404 shipped.
This one has both analog and DVI connectors, along with a still incredible 20ms response time (anything under 30ms is excellent for movies or gaming).

Both monitors come with a 3 year warranty.

Not sure if it`s in your price range but the Hitachi CML174SXWB 17" with 16ms response time is worth looking at.

I have the RAD-7XI and it has a very decent picture and it games beautiful.

w/ all these suggestions, i'm leaning towards the benq fp767, but can neone explain to me what the contrast ratio is and if itsb etter to have a higher one like 450:1 than a lower one of 400:1? thx

higher is better ... but the #'s vary. There's an article somewhere about that on anandtech or tomshardware

i did look at ur cornea CT1702, but it is a little out of my price range since i'm tryin to make a complete system for under 1300 and 500 on the monitor would force me to leave off some components that i want

one questions, it seems that the benq fp767 has only analog and not dvi. will the display suffer much from it since i've heard very different htings about it

Well ... Currently, I'm using analog for my cornea since I don't have a vid card that supports DVI yet

Everything's nice and crisp. Digital can only get better
