Update: Well, we bought a new-to-us CLS550. I guess we'll see how reliable this beast is over the next few years. It is a 2013 CLS550, white with tan leather interior. We looked at a 2014 E350 sedan but it wasn't nearly as nice as the CLS550.

Holy crap this thing is fast and comfortable. If you haven't driven one and get the chance I highly recommend it. It's a delightful car.

Oh, and we have 2 year unlimited mileage warranty through Mercedes-Benz and we added another 2 years onto that so we have 4 years of Mercedes factory warranty and our next 3 services are also free. So really it shouldn't cost us anything more than gas, tires and brakes.

Nice car, OP. I looked at the CLS550 but ended up with a 2012 BMW 550i Sport (purchased Jan 2015). They are both nice cars. The CLS was too swoopy in the rear and made child seats a pain, but if you don't have child seats probably isn't a problem.

It gets around 17mpg city. I know, it is horrible, but she doesn't drive as much as I do.

Congrats, I love the CLS. I had a 2007 CLS63 AMG, and that was a beast. There is one in our office park that looks just like that one.

Just under $47k and we put $12k down. Quite reasonable actually.

We paid for the warranty separately as we didn't want to tack it onto the loan.

It's actually built on the E-class sedan chassis. The S-class is about 10 inches longer. The CLS is so much nicer inside than the E though. Plus, most of the newer E-class vehicles have MBTex faux leather. The CLS has real leather seats.

Interesting fact: the E-class coupe is built on the C-class chassis.

We drove a 2014 E-class and it was actually really nice. Felt like it had decent power, good chassis and brakes, comfortable, easier to get in and out of the back seats than the CLS but man the interior of the CLS is just so much nicer and that 400hp twin turbo V8 just pushes you into the seat with such authority. It is intoxicating. :wub:

The CLS is a sexy beast too.

The E was about $8k cheaper and had fewer miles and while we both liked the E, we both loved the CLS.

Uh, no. Mercedes took burgundy, a color that never had much going for it in the first place, and made it truly terrible


Grats on the CLS though. I've always thought it was a car that can look really good or really crappy depending on color, and that is a good one

Well leather on the C was over $3k IIRC. I imagine its not cheaper on an E.

I can't figure it out. Seems like they're all doing it now though.

The faux leather is probably more durable but it just doesn't feel like leather. Not a fan. :thumbsdown:

Yep. In Europe I believe you can still get cloth in the base models. I'm perfectly OK with that.
