Looking at a bass on eBay... it says this

i'm no guitar expert but i can't think a bent neck is any good. thats one of the things you look for when buying a guitar, is the neck bent or not.

The neck should have a tension adjuster that would compensate for heavier strings. I wonder why the seller didn't adjust it?

You should be able to adjust the bend....but if medium gauge strings made it bend, I question the quality of that bass and I would also question if the person took care of it.

I've always adjusted the truss rod on my guitar so that there is a very slight bend in the neck. If the guitar is laying on its back, the neck should make a very slight U-shape that is only noticeable when you look the long way down the edges of it. If it is noticeable from a side-view, then it is bent too much, but may be adjustable.

I bought this last month, and I'm fully satisfied
Plays well and has a nice tone.
It plays just as well, probably even better than my old Charvel bass that I paid a little over $300 for twelve years ago.

In a proper setup, the neck will have a very slight bow. A little too much bow can cause the upper frets (12+) too buzz, but if the neck is too straight, there might be buzz in the lower frets (1-5).

What brand is the bass? What is your budget?
