What about this one? I know it's not a LOT different in the final cost department, but less of that cost is tied to a rebate.
They just use different controllers. The Sandforce typically has faster writes than the C300, while the C300 is usually faster on reads. Otherwise, they seem fairly equal in terms of performance, but the C300 is usually more expensive.Yeah, I found I could afford a small one for the OS + productivity apps. Games will probably stay on the other HDD though as loading times don't bother me too much and there will probably be a lot of them. Once I saw I could get a SATA III one for a decent price I went for it.
Just for my own knowledge, as I obviously am new to the SSD world, what's the difference between sandforce and c300?

I see. Nothing I'll ever notice then.
In other news, when did video cards get so massive? Last time I used one they weren't much bigger than a long envelope, but this one rivals my arm.
So much money spent and still nothing to show for it!
Building a $1500 PC without an SSD is a travesty IMHO. I can see the argument if you will be using the PC solely for gaming (if you have a laptop or something that you surf with), but you're really doing yourself a disservice if this machine is going to be your primary PC. The improvements in general usage (application launch times, multitasking, searching) are well worth it IMHO.
I have to agree with the above.
Framerates will not be much if any different during MOST games (WoW is a different breed) but downtime between games, tabbing out to other apps, ability to reboot quickly and get back to playing... those things add up over time to a significant headache, imho.
At 800 or so budget SSD is out but at 1500? Heck, yes.
A good 24" monitor works quite well. Most find at 27 or more they wish they were sitting back a ways. Before spending that level of cash on a display check them out. I'd much rather have three 22" monitors than one 27" display (of same quality).
I also decided on a display last week but forgot to post it here. I ordered an Acer GD235HZ. It's a 23.6" 120Hz 3D ready display. I doubt I'll use the 3D on it ever, but the 120Hz was the point and I might try out the 3D later on if I can find the kit on sale or something.
120Hz displays are nice even if you never enable 3d mode. Change the refresh rate to 120 and enjoy the eerie smoothness.
Please note how the computer runs with Win7 on the SSD when you get a chance. I'm building in late summer/early fall and am definitely going with one. Hopefully the price per GB goes down a bit by then.
My laptop boot times dropped from 60 secs to around 25. Windows feels so much snappier. I love mine.

That's what the word on the street is, which is why I ended up with it. I'm excited... all parts should be in by Friday. I'll have all weekend to play with everything I possibly can. The worst part is going to be the delay between firing the system up and waiting for Steam to download and install stuff. I can fill the time a bit by installing steam first, then do all the necessities like drivers and other programs... but that'll involve several reboots anyway which will interrupt steam. I'm thinking about getting a retail game just so I have something to play.
