Any suggestions? Looks like I am going to get that board or one of the others in the leaderboard thread. I am replacing an Abit VP6 with 2 pIII 700's @ 1000+

I have been away from the computer "scene" for a long time, I need help! Looking for ram suggestion to. This is a home desktop which gets used mostly for burning cd's/email/ also serves SMALL webpages mostly to share pictures. OS is 2000pro.

thanks

This board was tested by Anandtech and acheived a 667 FSB and DDR of 439. So, if your gonna OC then this is a good board. However, it does have its quirks. First the temps in the BIOS are wrong...well, not wrong just backwards. Mine arrived with a dead on board LAN port, but thats not a big deal seeing how PCI LAN cards are only 10 bucks....but still its BRAND NEW and should work.

My setup
2.4BGHz C1
512 Corsair XMS PC3200 (DDR400)
Vantech Aeroflow HSF with 5400rpm fan and copper core
Western Digital 40Gig 7200 rpm HD
OC: 160x18 = 2.88GHz
OC temps: 100F idle/113F load
Ran Prime test for 18Hrs....no errors
3dMark2001 SE score: 4700 (using a GF4 MX 440); waiting for my TI 4200 to come back.

Other people have this same setup OC'ed at 3GHz and their systems are stable. For the cost ($89) you can't beat it. This board should work just fine for the apps you listed.

If your in the market for a new cd burner I suggest the Liteon 52x24x52 (newegg.com has for $50 ).......I have this one and burn a full audio CD in about 2 mins....comes with Nero.

Couple of things I didn't like about thios board:

Compact size....to remove RAM you have to take Vidoe card out. But alot of mobo's are doing this now.
FDD(3.5 Floppy) is located on other side of PCI slots (weird spot)
Only two USB ports on backplane (4 USB headers on board, for total of six USB ports)
Does not come with USB header cable to bring additional USB ports to backplane via PCI

good luck

Thanks, I am about to order this board with a 2.4BGHz 512K 533MHz CPU Northwood from newegg. Haven't fully decided on ram. Newegg is out of Kingston 512 2700's, I've always had good luck ordering from Crucial, so probably will go with them again.

Thanks for the tip on the burner, I am using the "rebadged" Plextor from a "hot deals" buy a couple years ago.

thanks again

Googlegear has good ram prices. I would not go crucial. If you are going to overclock, you should look at Corsair XMS. I have this board and a 2.4B @ 3.06 Ghz, 1 Gig (2 X 512) Corsair XMS 3200C2 @ DDR425.

I'm not "planning" to OC it. These days I don't spend a lot of time dicking around with my computer. To busy in the garage. Just need it to be "stable" most of the time. It's already going to be faster than I have been running for a couple of months since I pulled one of the PIII's out of my system and have been running at 700 mghz. So I am not sure if around twice the price for ram is worth it for this set up?

thanks again guys, you never let me down

edit: Hmm, the ram you mentioned is "only" $40 more. Dang it, why didn't you tell me before I had already ordered from Crucial? Hmm, might have to see if I can cancel, though I am still not sure I need to.

I have this board as well. Great for OC. Running 2.4b SL6RZ at 3240(180*18) Vcore 1.525, Corsair 512mb XMS3200LL, Alpha 8945, 9700 AIW.

A for stock P4s, look for either a cheap 2.4b or 1.8a running at 133fsb... Great choice for your motherboard. I have not had any issues with it.

I think my sig tells you what this board can do.....I recommend you go with corsair as I am not as impressed with crucial reports of late....

This board in other reviews have hit 192+fsb...I am running 450mhz ddr memtested and prime tested...

Quirks in temps are minor in my opinion....The high system temp as being reported is likely very legit as the NB chipset is rather close to the cpu on this board due to its compact size. plus the fact it is well known many of the pe chipsets are running quite hot with these high fsb speeds...

The board, P4, ram, and a new hard drive all came yesterday. Have it up and running W2Kpro no problem. Just need to play with settings and re-install a bunch of programs along with downloading new drivers, etc...

Thanks all!
