Dude, M4. I already mentioned that and even put a pic of my bike with that pipe on it!

A pipe isn't going to make any difference with mileage. In fact, it might hurt the mileage a bit if anything. I averaged around 45 romping on it. That was the worst I could do in city riding. Out in the mountains and canyons I'd typically get closer to 50mpg.

I'd like to get a black one, that silver looks weird on it!

Any advice on integrating the blinkers in the rear, and shortening the fronts?

Wow, nice deal - I sold my 2000 for $2100 a few months ago, had ~25k and a mismatched motor (one new piston, one eBay head), aftermarket gauge system (OEM was broken in a previous owner wreck), etc. It was gone in a matter of hours after posting on CL.

For $900 more, a clean low mileage 08 is thievery!

I kind of liked the silver. They make a carbon one though if you prefer but it's about $100 more expensive. I bought mine from pipecity.com. The polished stainless one I had was only $300.

It's an easy DIY job to swap them out. You will need to cut off your existing pipe. A sawsall will make short work of that though. Just make sure you follow the directions and cut your pipe in the correct spot. I think it was about 2-2.5 inches back from a weld or clamp IIRC.

You could just run the bike with the fuel shut off until it stops running. Honestly, I'd just put fuel stabilizer in it and top it up. Cover the bike as best you can to seal it from the weather. I'd remove the battery and store it inside and keep it on a battery tender.

The newer ninja 250's have only prime and on position for the fuel valve. I have quite a bit under a full tank of gas so ill need to run it some more before it gets too cold. I'll change oil next week too.

Only reason I had to take and clean out my carbs was due to the previous owner taking it to the shop to get it maintenanced like oil and lubes up then he didn't ride it for 9 months.

Once I pulled our the carbs everything on the bike looked brand spanking new even carbs, cleaned them regardless twice, put em back and messed with the idle switch and bike would no longer shutoff without the choke

One word of advice, if that thing is still rolling on the OEM rubber I'd change it. Those tires were not very good. After about 3,500 miles I no longer felt comfortable pushing them hard into corners... and I put that many miles on mine in the first 6 months I owned it.

Yeah, if Suzuki uses the same Michelin Macadams for the SV that were OEM on my Bandit, they're absolute shit. Pilot Powers made a HUGE difference.

Nice bike and nice price. Good job OP.
Take a safety course.
Buy the best tires you can. Don't cheap out on tires. You only have two.
We have no snow here but it does get too cold to ride. I cover my bike, put Stabil in the tank and I keep it on a Battery Tender. I have the leads permanently attached to the battery and just have to plug it in.
As far as riding, if what you are thinking of doing scares you, don't do it.

That is what I was thinking, 4 years old seems weird! I might run them a little longer, see how they feel still, then replace them if it's weird...the tread is solid though, almost brand new, haha. I checked most hoses/clamp areas, there is some orange around the area, but they were movable and reclampable no problem.

There was one sharp corner where someone braked hard in front of me to turn, so I did the same ... but dowshifted and not braked very hard, and I felt the rear slide out a little maybe? It was fine after a second or two, corrected itself.

I want to integrate rear lights, and front lights, then get a different exhaust that hopefully gets better mileage, and looks a little better..I don't want LOUD though, haha. Any advice there?

sze5003 dowco is already on order .. got a dowco for the GF and loved it's fitment.

Congrats on the bike, but this is a terrible mentality you have on tires.

You are on a motorcycle. You have TWO tires. If one slips a bit, your ass is on the road. When you're in ICU getting road gravel scrubbed out of wounds with a plastic bristle brush you will REALLY wish you'd spent $250 on a set of tires.

No kidding... tires from 2008... are trash. Even sitting in climate controlled building on a rack, old tires have a weird way of gripping just fine up until they skate like ice. IMHO 5 years is the max life of a bike tire if you're pushing them AT ALL. If you're a new rider then there's way less room for error.

A motorcycle is not the vehicle to just let something like that go. Tires, chains, wheel bearings, steering stem, these are all CRUCIAL things with no room for issues.

That is weird, how does it help making a quick turn though?
It just sets up the bike.
If you steer left, you go right.
Steer right, you go left.

So if a rock was to your right and you steered the handle bars to the left (away from the rock) , the bike would go to the right (towards the rock).

And to me, it's more pushing down on the bar than steering.
IE: I want to go to the left, I push down on the left bar. Doesn't take much.
It may come in handy when you find yourself going to hot into a corner and the shoulder is coming up fast.

You need to be moving along when you try it. Not sure on the min speed but to practice, I'd get above 25/30.

4 years on stock tires is quite old... I'd get new ones.

You need to leave more following distance, and use less rear brake.

No aftermarket exhaust that you buy is going to give you better exhaust mileage.

Counter steering is hard to explain. You steer opposite direction of where you want to turn and you will turn that way. You press the handle bar forward, say u press the left one forward, front wheel makes like its going to the right and bike leans to the left.

It's tough to learn how to do and it ends up being done without realizing sometimes. My msf course just explained the concept but they didn't go into how to perform it.

Thanks olds, i'll practice that in a big lot I know of.

spatiallyaware, I thought the same thing about the tires...I will get some new ones next spring, as I am not sure how much decent riding weather we have left.

Trial and error.
A new rider just needs to know about it so they don't steer into the object they are trying to avoid.

Might be cheaper in the winter...

you know what, thinking about counter steering, I am pretty sure that's what I was doing around the tighter corners...and just realizing the term for it...it was subtle, maybe i'll try a little harder in a parking lot to see the response of it.

On a sharp corner like a 90 degree right turn you keep your weight and body upright and shift to the opposite side your turning then I usually steer with my right hand either to lean and make a really sharp turn or use the clutch in 1st or second gear to feather the speed up and down while just steering like normal.

Do it gently.
And when you lean over to turn, keep your chin parallel with the ground.
