Looking at monitors...

And I am getting all this advice from several members about what I should buy. It can be overwhelming. I am looking at a 19" kds (sony)trintron monitor...and was wondering what others thought. I also would like to know where I can get the best deal on a monitor. I'm new to this monitor buying business, and know y'all will give me some good options.

I also bet y'all never thought you'd see the Princess of OT post in Hardware. Paulson, cutie....you need not respond....LOL.

Thanks sooooo much....

Thanks for the link....f-man. I am new in here...and was told by an elite member that it would be a good idea to post here to find out some info. See, it already paid off...and your slight sarcasm has been ignored.

No offense meant but that thread is just one big argument over what is better,Sony or KDS.
It was nice that you searched for her though

The KDS should do you fine. Several members of this discussion board swear by them. As far as purchasing goes, look for the best deal on Pricewatch.

Crysla,

Don't get too caught up in the "name game" with monitors. I thought that paying a few more $$ for a Sony meant that I would get a better monitor. Actually, it meant that I spent two of my Saturdays driving my 2 Sony monitors to the repair center. Then, more hours of my time were spent on-line with Sony's support. I ended up getting both of them replaced by Sony. One of the replacements was very bad and finally I convinced Sony to buy one of them back. I probably racked up $300+ in FedEx charges that Sony covered to ship everything back and forth.

It may be best to see what you can locate locally. Viewing what you are going to buy might be the best bet. If you're looking at KDS, Office Depot has the 17" AV-7TF monitor on display. While you're looking for a 19" monitor, you might get some kind of idea what their quality is like by seeing the 17" model.

I'll withold the neekid comments, but I'll wish you the best of luck because I'd rather shop for a car with obnoxious sales people than order more monitors via mail order.

Onvia is definitely the best company to buy monitors from. They have free shipping on everything right now (usually it's a whopping $5), plus they almost always have $25 coupons or something, plus pointclick will mail you a check for 10% of any purchase you make at onvia, which all adds up to by far the best prices around. Onvia also isn't one of those pricewatch bottom feeders either, they have stellar ratings on all the reseller ratings sites. I've ordered a number of things from them without any problems, one of them coincidently was a KDS 19" I ordered for someone. It's a nice monitor for the price, though if you are willing to spend more money, you can find better.

I got my Viewsonic PF 790 from Onvia about 4 months ago and the total cost was around $380. It's truly awesome. They are definitely the best place to buy monitors from, as Pariah posted above. Give the Viewsonic a look.

If you can, shop locally for your monitor. The shipping costs are killer nowdays.I sell KDS,VIEWSONIC,OPTIQUEST,TATUNG and the best I could recommend is KDS for picture quality and service after the sale from KDS.Go to there website and read their commitment. It is impressive. Good luck.

Anand and Tom rarely, if ever, review monitors. Please provide some links to back this statement up (and no, I don't want gamepc reviews).

Okay....I'm liking Onvia...I have really looked tonite ...and I am liking the kds AV-195TF. It's already priced below other e-tailers and the free shipping I cannot beat. This is not my final decision....but I'm really liking this one.

So, now where is pointclick....does it just work like all the other rebate sites.

Thanks guys...y'all are being so great to this Texas gal. I really appreciate it.

I have three KDS...VS-190, VS 7, and now the AV 195TF. I used about six others including SONY. When it came to buy I asked myself if I could really SEE the difference between the Sony and the Avitron and I had to say, no. I saved several hundred dollars and got a monitor I like to look at. If I were brand conscious I would have bought the Sony..but I had other uses for the couple of hundred dollars I saved.

My first AV195TF felt rather hot at the top and so I got to try out KDS support. Called them on a Monday and they arranged to have FedX pickup the monitor the following morning...a Tuesday (their costs). The FedX man pickup it up at about 10am on Tuesday and he returned the very next day (Wednesday) with the replacement at 8:30am. Time without a monitor = about 22 hours.

The website is www. pointclick .com (without the spaces, the messageboard won't allow the website address to be entered as it should be, anti spam policy or something I guess). You have to sign up with them. Then go to onvia and make your purchase. Return to the pointclick site, go to the members page and click on the reimbursement link. Just follow the directions from there. It's not quite like rebates, because you don't have to wait 6-10 months for your check. They mail whatever they owe you at the end of the month.

Both the Samsung 950P and 900NF are better monitors than the KDS as are the Hitachi models. The 900NF is probably the best of the lot, if I was going to buy one of them.

Another vote for the Samsung 900NF.. I just got this monitor a week ago after a lot of researching, and I'm absolutely amazed by it. Its diamondtron tube gives me excellent text and colour, and its flat screen blows away my cheap 17 inch monitor.

Princess, get the Samsung 900NF. It and the sony are the only 19" monitors that can do 1600x1200 @ 85HZ.

What are you going to be using your monitor for? If you are going to be reading a lot of text I would go for the 900NF over a Trinitron model. The colors are not quite as good but, I think that it is a better all around monitor and a good value as well.

KingHam

P.S. Lay off the crack riceboi5 there are tons of monitors that can do 16x12@85Hz.

I just received my KDS AV-195TF from Onvia by way of UPS. The box got here without a scratch. I pulled the monitor out, hooked it up to my computer and now I have a brilliant, sharp 19" monitor replacing my 15" piece of cr#p. I spent 3 months searching (by reading all the comments) for this monitor. Right now at Onvia, it is $399.98 PERIOD. No shipping, no tax (for me anyways; CA)! I used a $25.00 American Express coupon so my final was $374.98. When ordering, ask for it to be sent from the distributor nearest you so your baby spends AS LITTLE TIME AS POSSIBLE in the hands and feet of UPS. Also, when UPS gets to your door, they will need an adult signature or they will leave you one of those stupid yellow slips (and not your monitor) that basically tells you they get to have your baby for one more day (or over the weekend; aarghh!) and you have to try to sleep that night knowing that your monitor is nearby but you can't see it or touch it. Have fun!
