Looking for a ~$100 AGP card

I have been using a FX 5700 Ultra card without many complaints since I got it in late 2003. I did not have any plans to upgrade my video card until I did a full system upgrade. My 5700 Ultra appears to have died however, and I need a replacement to go in my currently system. I am using a P4 Northwood 2.4, 1GB DDR, on what I believe is a MSI mainboard with AGP, no PCI-Express. I am using a Samsung 914V LCD from the last Black Friday. This monitor does not have DVI connections on it.

The selection of currently AGP cards is a bit more limited than PCI-X card, and they come at a slightly more expensive price. I have been coming across a lot of X1300 and X1600 Radeon cards, along with 6200 and 6600LE/6600 Nvidia cards.

I would like to get something faster than my 5700 Ultra and possibly a bit more power effecient as well, since the PC sits in a hot room. I am using a GeForce 2 MX200 right now that I found on a shelf, its horrible Thanks for any help!

Look for a 6600GT (either on in the FS/T forum, or somewhere online). that should suit you very well.

as a side note... we have the same monitor. where and how much did you get yours for? mine was $200 @ best buy

My monitor was $200 at Staples, same deal, same day, different store. The 2D quality over the analog connection is notably wretched with this MX 200 video card

Newegg has open box 6600GTs and X1600Pro for just under $100. Thoughts between those two? Any idea which is better on power usage?

Its PCIe. PCI-X is an entirely different standard. Consult Wiki for my information.

The X1600Pro uses less power than the 6600GTs, I believe, because its using a 90nm process. Also, it will outperform a 6600GT, I think. I haven't looked at any X1600Pro benchmarks in a long time.

AT's review of the x1600pro showed it to be a terrible card and slower than the 6600gt.
But it performs faster in new shader heavy games. Its still a very mediocre card for a gamer though.

I am not really a gamer. I play WoW, that is about it. I will look for a 6600GT, but those are a bit over my price range in most cases

gello99...PM me regarding the card. I have a friend who may be interested. Also, do you a heatware rating?

Problem solved with a new OEM power supply. This was after trying two other power supplies, guess the card is picky after 2.5 years of use :|
