Looking for a bootable virus scan app or that doesnt require an install

Could need some help out of a jam. Basically want to give a CDR with a virus scan on it to someone so they can run a scan on their system (idiot who got a virus) without having to install it like what you have to do with Norton or McAffee.

If anyone also knows of a bootable virus scan app, that would be nice as well. thx

Network Associates has 'stinger' which is a standalone executable, but it only has defintions for a handfull of viruses/worms.

Here's another alternative....

F-Prot for DOS

F-Prot is a good app that runs from DOS that can scan for and fix viruses. You just need to download the DOS version and extract it to a folder on your HD. Also, download the latest virus and macro definitions (2 files) from the website and overwrite the files in the extracted directory with the new definitions.

You can either make a bootable CD with the F-Prot directory on it, or just burn a normal CD (with F-Prot on it) and use a Win98/ME bootdisk to boot to a "true" DOS prompt with CD support. Switch to the F-Prot directory on the CD and run the executable.

"Trend Micro HouseCall" is a free online virus scan. Same company that makes PC-cillin, shouldn't be too bad.
