Looking for a Cheap Computer

I'm looking for a computer for about $300 dollars or less, hopefully with potential to be upgraded. Can anyone point me in the right direction? So far I've just assumed that dell outlet or a similar service is my best bet. Also, I would be willing to pay a little more if there's any good bundles out there (I'll need a monitor eventually anyways.)

Absolutely. Dig around here for a bit, and see if there is anything that fits your requirements. Also, you could do a WTB (want to buy) post as well. Good place to get good used (and some new) stuff.

What about actual retailers? Any that stand out in the bargain category? I get a little nervous buying things from people I don't know with no warranty. Also, I'm not really asking you guys to point out sales or anything (I'm not that lazy, I can find them myself), but to just give me an idea of what the best way to spend $300 dollars is--so if anyone has bought a PC for around that price range, I'd appreciate if they'd tell me what they got for it. The main reason I'm buying a new computer is because my old one is running Windows ME, and I decided it's time to go to XP, but it seems more cost-efficient to just buy a refurbished PC that comes with XP loaded than to buy it seperately and put it on this old POS.

Sunday paper here has a $299 PC on the front of the Office Depot flyer. Dell has $399 PCs all the time. You'll need to check specs (manufacturer website) to see if either has a PCI-E x16 slot for a video card.

Usually when you buy an inexpensive computer, any option upgrades would be very limited or not practical. Usually the PSU is underpowered to do any good. It would be more economical to step up to another buy. I recommend a e-Machine or a Dell at the onset, you can always step up to a better system when experience and need requires.

buy one used from someone in your area so you can go in and test before you buy, if you dont like ordering used online.
