I'm very confused with the new nVidia line and I don't know if I should go with their FX cards. But for the same price, around $100, what card should I get that would support er, what's the buzz word I heard at work.... pixar shading 2.0 or something like that?

You can find used 9600pros around $100 sometimes, and used 9700pros can be found for approx $130-$140 in the FS/FT forum too.

BTW, those are both about the best PS2 cards I've seen for less than $150 lately. The nV FX series is pretty weak there and the 6800series is much more pricey. The ATi 9600pro/XT-9800pro/XT series of cards do well with it though.

I got a used Radeon 9700 non-pro from eBay for $103 after shipping. Yeah, um, it was faster in the game I was playing (Battlefield: Vietnam) than my $180 new GeForce FX 5900XT. The same cannot be said for other cards in that price range. A 9700 Pro gives a bit more oomph, but is a little bit more $$$ too.

For the most part, the mid to low end GeForce FX cards are not as good as the cost equivalent ATi Cards.

I would suggest that you stay away from the nvidia cards in the 5 series, most of them were junk. For your budget I would look for a deal on a 9600 pro, or a used 9700 pro (radeons)

A 9600 (not SE, but just plain 9600) is right around $100 on pricewatch. The pro version is $10-$20 more.
Also, around $80 is the GF4TI4200 128mb. This card is just as fast as the 9600, but lacks DX9 shaders. This basically means that modern games wont look quite as nice, but will run just as fast for a cheaper price (incase u dont know).
