There's nothing funny about me. You quite intentionally wrote off a camera that you didn't even know the most basic facts about, using incorrect information to justify this to the OP.

I don't know any more than the reviews i linked to about it, but other than someone whining about it, and some unspecified references to sample photos, you haven't presented a shred of evidence that suggests you've followed your own advice, or more importantly, provided something useful for the OP

The only reason i bothered looking for reviews on it was because i had a vague idea that you were full of it when you were decrying the fact it was 12mp, and given the prevalence of 'brand fanboys/haters' on the net, a whiff of bulldust rather flavours my attitude to someone's very passionate advice on a product. If you want to offer advice that doesn't make you look like you've got an agenda, try getting your facts right, and actually providing some evidence (a few links to these awful samples would have been more than enough).

Yah I accidentally wrote 12mp when I meant to write 8 (which is still too high for a small sensor compact). Okay, drop it.

Like I said 3 times. Go to dpreview.com and type in the camera model. See what real people have to say. The pictures you linked to aren't anything special either. They're very noisy actually with blown out highlights and serious focusing issues. Furthermore, proving why I don't like w90 shots. I'm done with this whole thing, it's getting ridiculous. I can tell you're going to defend it till you're blue in the face. You have your thoughts, I have mine. Lets leave it at that. Im really not interested in continuing about that stupid sony camera.

Those pictures look good to me, especially for a $150 camera. And I certainly wouldnt make my decision based on 1 or 2 sites, especially dpreview.com. Those people there are more perfectionist I have noticed and they will say a good camera is crap. I am a average person, not a photographer and I dont need perfection but I would like a decent combination of IQ, features, and value.

I think you pretty much summed up what I was thinking, though it was good to get perspective even if from perfectionists. I've learned a lot from you guys. I'm trying decide which features/qualities I really need and want. I'm gonna go out and feel up some of these cameras another time just to be sure. Thanks for the constructive posts, all of you.

So I just got the SD870IS. I'm fairly impressed by it, with the caveat that I am the average user. The construction and controls are marvelous. The 3 inch lcd is quite beautiful. I don't miss not having the view finder either. And it's small. TINY. But it handles remarkably well. My roommates and I oogled at the features for a bit and took some indoor pics.

I was pretty impressed by all of cameras recommended, but when it just came down to it, I really liked the SD800, and with the announcement of the SD870, I just caved. Wide angle shots and a 3 inch lcd, and ultra compact. What's not to love. The pictures as far as I can tell so far look great.

I've only messed around it with a bit, but I'll be going on a dinner cruise later on this week. I'll be sure to take some real pictures during that to share.

Don't forget to check Flickr's Camera Finder. The images from the 870IS are indeed breathtaking (as are the 850IS). You made a great choice.
