My dell P991 after nearly 5 years of loyal service is finally starting to get a shaky around the edges, so I guess it is time to get a new one. I am having trouble finding a CRT capable of 1600x1200@85Hz from a reputable company for ~$300 does any one have recommendations?

One recommendation, Mitsubishi DP 930-sb
Now the price is higher this week at Dell due to the 10% off special taken off however if you can wait a ~week it will be back on. The total price lately with the 10% off has been around 297.00 and thats including tax (for myself)Just check the site each day as they run the special more than not every month. There is always free shipping. Several here lately have bought this monitor including myself. I just put mine on 16x12 85hz and the text is absolutely perfect. I researched all the 19" before I got mine 4 months ago or so. There is no comparison to it. See the recent thread below. It is advisable to buy from Dell due to their no hassle return policy on monitors along with the free shipping and like I say wait a few days and there will be 10% off again. If you do not have to pay tax it will be a bargain for sure. If you demand perfection in image quality and geometry this is for you.

Recent anand thread on your question

Sharkey recommends this on their high end rig for many months now.
Sharkey Extreme high end gaming rig:thumbsup:

I live in Tx. so ofcourse I paid tax. With 10% off mine was 297.00 just wait a few days for that to go back in effect. And if u find a cheaper price u better nail them down on return policy for monitors. most all of them will say you have to return to manufacturer. Its worth it in my view for the good return policy of Dell. Gateway also has that monitor and a pretty good return policy, you may want to check them. Seen 1 or 2 that ordered it from securemart and like them, they have the lowest price and u have to return to manufacturer with them.

If you don't mind refurbished sets you can get 21" FDTrinitrons for <$300 shipped

Another recommendation for the DP930. It handles 1600 x 1200/85hz without any problems. Best 19" CRT out there.

If you want cheapie, OfficeMax has a "StarLogic" 19" CRT, that can do 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, for under $150. I know nothing about the quality of those units though, never seen or used one, and for the price, you know they probably have to be cutting corners somewhere. I just mention it because it's the cheapest 19" that can do 1600x1200 at a reasonable refresh rate that I've seen.

I think Viewsonic has CRT's that can do what you're asking for. You can find their graphics and professional series 19 inchers with decent refresh rates for under 300 dollars. Look for the G90's and P95's. I've seen good prices on Gateway and CDW for them, 230-260 respectively.

Check out www.merkortech.com.

They sell mostly lease pulls. Really good prices. I paid around a cupla years ago for a 21" IBM w/ trinitron screen. Sweet monitor. I've seen them have 21" compaq trinitrons for around 200 bucks.

Yeah, I've got an IBM trinitron that does 2048x1536, it's refurbished but I haven't had any problems in almost a year. Got it for about 300.
