Looking for a decent wireless security system

I am looking at getting a wireless security system for our home/business. I am kind of clueless on this stuff and how they work. I know I would want at least 4 cameras with the possibility to upgrade to 8 if needed down the road. I have looked at some on amazon and some have a 1tb or bigger hard drive and others don't. Would I be better off getting one with a hard drive or buying a better quality hard drive myself? How good are the hard drives that come with them? What kind of hard drives do they use? Can SSD drives be used? Is it possible to use a hard drive that is installed in a desktop?

For the wireless part, I realize wired would be better in terms of reliable connection but where I would want to mount some of the cameras, running wire would be a real pain. How reliable are the wireless units? Some cameras maybe out in the weather. What kind of range do wireless cameras have? Some cameras could be 100ft away from the base.

Also would like to have something with good picture quality of course. Some I noticed only have a 2mp camera, which to me doesn't seem all that great.

Overall, how reliable are security systems? Any brands better than others? Any brands to stay away from?

Don't really care about being able to monitor it on a mobile device although maybe would be nice to have.

Dear memory,
Wireless is nice but if you have a lot of traffic triggering your cameras you're going to be climbing up to take down the cameras & charge them all the time. Not sure of your situation since you said home / business...?

Megapixels don't tell the whole story when it comes to security cameras or cameras in general anymore. Currently Low light situations favor lower MP for higher end sensors.

If you're set on wireless, I would suggest looking into Arlo Pro 2 - 4 Camera Kit is a popular choice & I've seen used first hand. I didn't see you mention a budget so you'll have to take that into consideration as well.

wired is definitely more reliable, but if you want to go wireless video, the big players are ring and wyze. I personally use home8 (a small company, US-based at least..) just because I can control garage and view video on the same interface. I think the home8 system support up to 10 cameras, wyze I'm not sure, but the camera quality is a bit better

Arlo is good. Not great but good. I put all my camera outside windows so I dont need a ladder to reach them. Just open a window and grab it off the magnetic base (very good hold).
