Looking for a "gaming" mouse pad.

Hey all;

I am looking to replace my generic optical mouse with a Razer Deathadder in the near future, and was wondering what the best gaming mouse pad would be to match up with this mouse. I play a lot of FPS (CODBLOPS, BFBC2, Etc.) Currently I am looking at the following 3, but any suggestions would be welcomed.

RAZER Goliathus Speed Edition
RAZER Goliathus Control Edition
Steelseries Qck

Also; if anyone has any experience with the 2 Razer pads could you tell me what the difference between the Speed, and Control editions are?

If a pad is advertised (not just Razer's) for speed it means the pad is going to be smooth/low friction. Control pads will have more friction.

It all comes down to personal preference and play style. If you're more of a fast action reflex shooter with a lower mouse sensitivity, speed might be better. If you're a higher sensitivity mouse user or you're a slower paced sniper, control might be the better fit.

After buying several expensive "gamer" mouse pads (Steelseries SP was my last one) and wearing them smooth after months of gaming, I finally went and bought a $3 cloth one from Newegg. It's been 6 months, and it's still going strong. My only complaint is that it doesn't grip my glass desk or metal keyboard tray very well; it tends to slide about an inch or two over the course of the day.

I'm tempted to give the Steelseries QCK a try, but the only thing I really stand to gain is a better grip on the desk. The only thing holding me back is that I've read the cylinder they ship it in tends to deform the mouse pad for a period of time, and sometimes leaves the surface with permanent ripples.

Voted for the Qck, I've had no problems with either of mine. My Qck+ is still in good condition after a year or so now, and the tracking is superb. The DeathAdder will pick up some dust from the pad, but nothing some canned air can't take care of.

Steelseries 5L. I can't even remember how long I've had mine and it's still butter.

I like to use a thick cloth pad with light colors so a red/IR led/laser reflects easier.

I used to use the hard smooth ones but you don't have enough control.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I would like the textured surface of the Razer CONTROL, so I will probably get the Razer SPEED, or the Steelseries QCK. If anyone has any other specific models they think are better please give me newegg.ca or ncix.com links. Thanks!

I bought several mouse pads to try. The Speed, Control, QCK and 1 other. I stuck with the Control. Something about the texture just feels so right for me. Using a smooth/slick mousepad now just feels wrong and out of control haha.

I think that texture would annoy me. Looks like I will be going for the QCK. More people have voted other, but I don't see any specific examples.

I've been using a Slicksteel Stainless Steel mousepad for about 7 years now and it's held up great. I use a red scotch-brite pad on it every couple months to keep it clean and give it a very slight texture/matte finish (I cross-hatch it, takes maybe 2 minutes every few months) and it works great. Not exactly cheap, and was a bit of a wait since I could only find it in the UK, but it still looks brand new all these years later.

You could also check out the Zowie G-TF SpawN. Its $30 but everyone that has had a QCK said they replaced it with the zowie and have no regrets

Zowie G-TF spawn is the best you can get, and one of the most expensive ones. Extremely smooth, very durable, stitched edges, big, water resistant, dirt resistant, good looking, comfortable Everything a good gaming pad needs to be.

I had a Steelseries QcK+ previously but due to its non-stitched edges and only 2mm thickness, the front edge developed a curve upwards in only a few months of use

Go with the Rocketfish gaming pad! I have one and love it!!!! It is large! It is solid! and it's dual sided so you can flip it over for speed or the other way for control.

Most gaming mice such as my mouse (cyborg R.A.T. 7) is fast enough so I use the control side for precision.

Best bang for buck. It's very afordable.

I prefer a hard surface. Been using a Razor eXacMat for years. Easy to clean with some Windex and then just need to keep the feet clean on my mice.

I just got a Razer Scarab for my birthday, and love it. Has a slightly textured surface, and is a real nice match to the underside of the Death Adder.

I've gone through a lot of mats over the years, but I'm currently sticking with the Puretrak Talent. Works fantastic with the IME3.0, but I do have to warn that it had terrible lift-off issues with the DA, so it may not be good for every mouse.

I used to like the 5L but since moving away from the 'patterned' version they seem to have gotten a lot worse - the surface degradation is a lot quicker than before. My last one became literally unusable after about a month; my mouse was dragging like I was using a tile of carpet.

I also have a Steelseries 9HD which is incredibly slick, but I didn't feel like I had enough control when using it so I switched it out. The surface area really wasn't big enough either.

I had a QcK at one stage too but it was way to thin and flimsy for me.

The Talent seems to be the best balance of control and speed for me, plus I never have to worry about mousing off the edges - it's huge. I have one at home and at work now.

This is what I went with. Does it have any benefits to gaming, per se? I dunno. But it sure is nice to look at.

I use the largest QcK+ and it's great except sweat from my palms tends to collect where I rest my hand. It's not really like any other mousepads will be better for that anyway.

I'd use the steelseries if my Razer Destructor wasn't still going strong.
