Some years ago I bought a Detecto balance beam scale for about $150, figuring it would give me accurate, consistent results. But not really. It's pretty cheaply made and not very precise. Depending on how you work the beam and what you want to call "balanced" you could easily get readings over a two pound range. I try to be consistent with how I use it, so if it's off, at least on a day-to-day basis it should give me consistent readings.
The scale is down in my basement on a nice level section of the concrete floor, but I had to move it the other day for some plumbing work. I put it back this morning, balanced it as well as I could... and now I weigh 3 1/2 pounds more than I did on Thursday.
Screw it. I'm pretty certain that an under $50 digital bathroom scale would be more consistent.
Any recommendations? I don't need body fat composition, BMI, memory, bluetooth or any other junk, just consistency in reading body weight.
