Looking for a good DVD burner

I have been looking at the Sony DRU-510A DVD±RW Drive. I like that it can do both the + and - formats. I really dont know anything about DVD burners though and dont want to buy a POS. Could anyone reccomend a good dvd burner? Or do you think the one I have is a winner?

I've got a Sony DRU-500A (earlier than the model you're looking at) and love it. In my experience it's great with DVDXCopy, Nero, CloneCD, and Alcohol 120%.

Well, if you have the money check out the new Plextor DVD Burner, Plextor PX-708A DVD Burner. This was just released this week - it is also the first and currently the only burner that does 8X DVD+R. I'm a big Plextor fan as I haven't had any problems with their products...other than price. Unfortunately, I had already purchased a DVD burner two weeks ago. The NEC DVD burner was a great price at $170 at Newegg.com. Here is the link to the DVD burner NEC ND 1300A DVD Burner .

The Sony DVD burner you are looking at is also a good one. I choose the NEC because it has the same features but a much better price. I haven't read many complaints on either the NEC or the Sony model. Hope this helps.

I had the Sony DRU500AX awesome burner, I traded it for a new TDK Indi which aslo does +or-
The Sony has 8meg cache, the TDK has 2 but no difference in burning speed.
Actually the TDK burns faster but Sony's software is better.
The TDK was 269.00 while the Sony is 369.00 You decide?

Sony has my vote. Halve I'm selling my external Sony 510UL for a good price. FYI the external performs as well as the internal.

FYI the NEC1300 does not have the same features, Sony has the same or better performance (except on CD Read speed 40X vs 32X) and media compatibility.

Plex makes good drives, but we won't be seeing any 8X media on the market for at least 6 months.
