Looking for a good hosting company

I'm looking to dump HostGator and move onto a better hosting company. The support at HostGator is horrible, not to mention it seems like every day some service is down. This week the email server went down during the daytime and it took forever to get someone in chat to realize what is going on.

I really hate to switch as it's a pain to move over domains, email and web accounts.

Any advice on whom you recommend would be most helpful.

Thanks.

If you don't mind unmanaged hosting, I've been very happy with DigitalOcean over fast few years. They have one-click options for their droplets so it's not too hard to setup a CMS like WordPress. Minimal downtime and very fast servers for the price.

It is me! What's up.

hostgator also uses cPanel, so moving to me, or any other hosts should be a breeze, when it comes to retaining your data/email, assuming that's where you are hosting it out of.

You could leave your domains with your registrar now, or move them to someone like namecheap, or godaddy. We don't make any money on domains, it's purely for convenience for some people. My recommendation though, is to use namesilo.com, they have awesome prices, AND include free whoisprotection. It's always safer to have your domain with another company, ya know, just in case. It also gives you more flexibility when you control your own DNS and all that fun stuff.

digitalocean seconded

linode is also a decent option, i think you get 2x the RAM for the same price (but not all the features)

Huh. I've never had a lick of trouble with HostGator, nor with their support. It's easily the best shared hosting that I've ever used, but I don't tax it much. Primarily just email and image hosting.

My only complaint is that there are no discounts after the first year. I have a hosting bill due in couple of weeks and was debating moving to someone cheaper or just sticking with HostGator for another year.

So this seems like a nice self-plug, and one that I'd be interested in exploring. Except who are you?

You can also be a baller like me and get a dedicated server.

Seriously though, I'd probably suggest Vivi's host as well given he's a member here.

I've heard good things about Stablehost. I don't use them though. My host has been pretty decent and it's been over 2 years there was downtime. And it lasted maybe 20 min if that. The only issue I have with my host is that customer support is like a one man operation. I use Geekstorge.com

If you have the money, I'd look into Amazon. I use their S3 cloud for hosting images and it's only pennies.

Been using Firebase for a while now and really like it. I like how they use the CLI to get stuff up onto it. It had a learning curve but it's pretty nice now with a gulp script that will build and deploy the site.

I have hosting through MyWindowsHosting (just cause I like developing websites in .NET) and never recall having had a problem with them. I think they were pretty good price-wise compared to other shared Windows hosting places but they may not have the features you need (or have ones you don't need).

Second vivi and madgenius. I moved from Hostgator to Madgenius last year due to terrible support. New hosting company has been great.

DO thirded. Outgrowing my shared hosting I need something with more power and that will scale as I grow. With block storage and now object storage options, along with 3 different type of hypervisor server types (regular, high ram, high cpu), it's just an amazing service for the price. I'm also moving all my work many hosting platforms from around the country to a small cluster of DO droplets.

Granted they come with nothing and you get zero support so you need to know what you're doing. I threw plesk on my works droplets for other team members to use them since I'm the only one with extensive linux server and webhosting experience. My personal droplet is just linux with Litespeed though.

i also like their backup feature, for 2$ and change per month it's a no brainer
