For you guys suggesting DigitalOcean and Linode, don't forget that Google Cloud Platform offers a free year of service with a $300 server credit when you sign up. If you're running a small web server instance, you can basically run it there for free for the next year.

I would have recommended them had they not attempted to charge me for free credit when I tried their Compute Cloud a few years ago. Their email support was atrociously slow, too, it took a few weeks to resolve the issue.

Google's support can be good for some things from what I've heard (like their phones), and I do like how simple they are for both cloud and domain registration, but they wouldn't be my first recommendation.

Hmm... Well, that sucks. I haven't had any problems with them so far, but I'll have to keep that in mind. I've been hosting 10 small on-demand Linux servers there for load testing, and still have about $270 in server credit left.

They offer very versatile products but I really dislike all the variable costs. I much prefer DO knowing how much the service is going to cost me. There are definite use cases for it and other similar systems like Amazon but for myself to host my site, I know it will cost X amount for the month. I'm not one to sign up for a service I know I won't use just to get free stuff.

I just moved a domain over to Mad Genius this evening. Setup wasn't as automated as most larger hosts. Appears to be done manually after ordering. Other than that, so far so good.

Which web host did you switch from?

Anyone know what's up with madgenius? My site is running, but I'm having a small issue with the server. Right now madgenius.com is down. The name doesn't even resolve in DNS (which is unsettling), so I can't open a support ticket.
